I'm enjoying it right now, and I'm excited to train hard and to focus for the fight. But if the time comes, and I'm not excited any more, then, maybe I will rethink my retirement.

I read a article once that Jones wanted to retire in the late 90's to play basketball, wish he would have chosen the right time to retire.

 

I think Jones was kinda forced to stay a lot longer than he wanted to because of financial issues.

Manny will never have that problem.

And about the quote, it's no disrespect to RJJ. He was only 2nd to ODLH in terms of popularity and buzz and respect/admiration among Filipino boxing fans (non heavyweights) back in the mid-late 1990s.

Even if we only see his fights many months (sometimes year) late.

I was in awe of his talent. He was like a fighting rooster.
I kept on pushing his fights to anyone who cared to listen.
First fight of his I saw was the big one vs James Toney.

The latter part of his career was a downer.

Pacquiao is like Ali in his country, even if he ends up with nothing he can always be on tv and do things and still live very rich there.

 

Because I live in the Philippines, and honestly, if he retired right after his trilogy vs Morales, he would have already been set for a couple of lifetimes here.

Purse winnings, endorsements, business deals, etc.

Imagine how much bigger he is now. Plus he's a congressman too.

 

I hope Manny never has finacial issues but he is surrounded by leeches ..Its sad to see Jones hang around for so long but I doubt he really has money troubles living out of Pensacola ..Real Estate is very cheap there ..I feel ill watching Jones lose to the likes of Green ,I felt like I did when I watched Hector Comacho beat up Sugar Ray Leonard .

 

The guy is already chosen for congress, even if somehow he would pull a "Bowe", a "Holyfield", a "Tyson" or a "Floyd" he probably still would live a life of luxury.

 

Living/leisure/entertainment/food expenses here are ridiculously low, if you earned all your money abroad.

Trust me on this one. You can ask any Filipino expat you know. Or any foreign tourist who's ever been here.

A lot of them would probably choose to go back home here to retire, to make the most of the money they earned abroad.

The ones who work in the country are the ones who are having a harder time. Especially the working class.

 

then retire as soon as possible and control the lure of money. arum of course would tempt you to keep fighting but you should know yourself if your body has taken much punishment already.

 

Just look at where Manny came from im sure he doesn't want to go back to that life .I just worry about the clowns that surround him ..Though I don' t think his entourage are as big of leeches as Tyson old entoruage the possibility is still there .As long as he making the right investments he will be fine .

 

Manny wont end up like Roy, he uses better roids.

 

Yeah. Tyson's tragic fate will always be a cautionary tale to all superstar boxers.

At least Pac has got a loyal housewife and kids who's at least gonna be someone to remind him and ground him and stop him from spending money like no tomorrow like Iron Mike did.

 

Roy is the rule not the exception. Roy many years ago was referring to Hearns fighting on and on.
