Cause its obvious the ref was tryna get him killed. I mean the guy gets dropped, goes down in a heap, and then goes into convulsions. But thats not enough. He staggers back to his feet, the ref ask him to come forward and put his gloves up, and Montiel just stands there with a "where the **** am I " look on his face. Incredibly the ref deems he's fit to continue and then he watches Montiel just stand there and eat 2 more Donaire shots before he call it off. Horrible performance in an otherwise good fight.
The ref did a PERFECT job in this fight. I wish more refs had the balls to let fights go to their natural conclusion. Perfect stoppage.
I'm with the TS. This dangerous sport needs a snappier thinker and smarter to react in moments like this referees. Especially in high profile fights like this where the stakes are so high (prideful fighters ready to die) and participants known to win via KOs. fighters can die with a simple mistake. It's a convulsion (though mild) for christ's sake! These fighters have families too!
Oh my god I was thinking the exact same thing. That ref needs to be shot. He was having ****ing convulsions and grimacing like he had intercranial pressure buildup. Zakman, you need to stfu.
I'm not gonna hate on that ref. Montiel was the defending champ. It was the first knockdown of the night. You have to give the champ a chance to fight on if he has the will and the ability to get back up. I know Montiel had no legs at that point and in any other other fight you'd stop it right there... but you gotta give the champ a chance. Only thing Montiel had to do was get to his feet before the count of 10, which he did. At that point, it is entirely up to the ref to let him continue or not, and him being the defending champ, he was given the benefit of the doubt.
I said that too. Why didn't he stopped the ****ing fight. But I understand why he did that though. He gave the champ a chance. Notice he was very wary right after and I think he made the right decisions.
The ref definitely gave him a chance...and was quick about stopping it too... Montiel was totally out of it..
In fairness, the ref didn't see Montiel having that convulsion. It was just a normal KD to him after seeing Montiel took that "jump" to that kept him up.
The ref did the right thing . . . on a fight with that stature, it will be more questionable if the Champ was not given any chance. The guy was quick to stop it after seeing that Montiel can no longer depend himself. What more can you ask for?
This is what I thought. Give Montiel a second chance and prove that he can still fight. The fight was stopped right away when it was clear that Montiel cannot fight anymore.
I just saw the replay from a different angle. The ref never saw Montiel convulsing, he was busy instructing Donaire to go to a neutral corner. [yt]IA9seEAsvE8[/yt]
