And I honestly didn't think it was as one sided as people talked about.

I was under the impression Malignaggi got battered by Cotto and his only rally was when he wobbled Cotto in the 9th was it? Not the case. I gave Malignaggi at least 5 rounds, and I think the fight was closer than the judges had it, though I think it was a fair score.

Clearly Cotto won, I'm definitely not trying to say Malignaggi won, but I think he gave such a great showing against him. He did well to actually make Cotto backpedal a few times, and he was actually outlanding Cotto a lot, which doesn't mean a lot because of his lack of power, but he did very well. The only times he really got hurt was when he went toe to toe with Cotto, he boxed very well and you can't really blame him for clinching a lot when Cotto came in. Malignaggi's worst experiences in the fight was when Cotto could get in and give him a left hook to the body.

Overall, great fight, and great crowd. It was a real livewire of a fight in my eyes, and MSG really helped. I can't help but feel Paulie's last few performances have overshadowed his earlier career. His showing in the Cotto fight was great, but how about his win over Lovemore N'Dou? N'Dou's nothing particularly special, but Malignaggi bossed him for 12 rounds, won every round, Lovemore had no idea what to do, knocked him down, unfairly had a point taken off and Paulie took the title home unanimously. Very good showing for Paulie.

Anyway, I thought Cotto vs. Malignaggi was a highly enjoyable fight and was surprised Malignaggi didn't get as raped as I thought he would. Obviously weight issues are going to come into this but I don't think that's fair, personally.

it was enjoyable....so glad i chose to get that instead of tarver/hopkins

and that fight made me a fan of paulie....not often fighters make statements in a loss

n after that fight he parted with his trainer billy giles(cams uncle)....i remember paulie saying something like that he was upset because his corner never made him feel like he was in the fight or had a chance during the fight....and had they encouraged him to push it a little harder he would have brawled less and tried to use his boxing skills a little more....

i was there live when he beat n'dou...great night for paulie......hey the kid has made a pretty good living for himself in the sport...not many thought he would...even he didnt...with all the hand setbacks he had.....he even said he took the cotto fight before he was prob ready because he didnt know if hed get another big chance

Paulie says that McGirt wasn't right for him, but was that true? McGirt's advice in the N'Dou fight seemed pretty rock solid and you've got to wonder if he'd done such a bang on job had McGirt not been there. Knowing Paulie, he likes to showboat when he's on his way to a victory, and that's not a good thing.

I think Paulie meant in camp and the way he got him into shape and wanted him to fight. Still not a huge fan of McGirt as a trainer but we know when a fighter has a set back who the first to go is...

How about getting battered by Herman Ngoudjo and getting a gift win?

The first N'dou fight was his best fight and win. The second one was very close and could have gone either way...

Yeah- Paulie really shocked Cotto- I remember an interview where Cotto said he was so used to stopping fights that the shock of Malignaggi getting back up and starting to win rounds really did a number on cotto's psyche in the fight. He went on to say he always saw himself winning, but i wonder if that is really true when in round 9 Malignaggi caught cotto and wobbled him :)

Paulie put up a good fight but in terms of rounds won you can only give him three rounds at best and even those rounds you could swing Cotto's way.

I have to confess that I wrongly picked Paulie to pull off an amazing upset and beat the great M Cotto. I had a bit of feeling that Paulie would have Cottos number even though I didnt think Paulie would be a great.
Lost a bit of money on it but not much

This was a very, very good fight. Back when Paulie was fresh he wasn't a bad fighter, things just didn't seem to work out, which was a shame.

I like Paulie, for the sole reason that he has elite level toughness, but other than that he doesnt have much. the transvestite wardrobe doesnt help him either.

I did however correctly predict that hatton would not only beat him, but outbox him.

He did better than expected, but Cotto won the fight easily enough. He would beat him 100 times out of 100. I remember Paulie was desperate for a rematch and Cotto thought he was either stupid or crazy.

Paulie hasn't always had the greatest take on reality:

"The way I see it, I'd give Ricky a rematch just as soon as I've punished Manny Pacquiao. I am really angry at the complete lack of respect Manny Pacquiao has been giving me. I mean, he's been talking about fighting Hatton next, when Hatton hasn't even got past me yet! I've worked very hard to get where I am in my career, and for Pacquiao to completely take that away from me by disrespecting me - that makes me really want to punish him after I beat Hatton. But then, afterwards, I would be happy to give Ricky a rematch."

he also said people were too busy talking about hatton vs pacquaio, and that he would fight, outclass, and destroy hatton the "glorified club fighter" to earn a remacth at cotto...
