Is there anyone at 118 that can hang with Donaire?

Royalt is spot on as always. Donaire moving up to collect a belt will be boring, him against Moreno and tourney winner to get all 4 belts and the lineal title would be imense.

While Donaire is cleaning up 118 have the top rank fighters at 122 in Molitor, Rigo and Vasquez Jnr unify. Then Donaire moves up and fights the winner of that trio for a true world title not a bogus belt.

 

I'm really not sure what will happen with him, he shouldn't have been waiting around till March after his last fight, especially for a fight against someone like Casey that is unproven and will add nothing to his marketability.

I really think Top Rank lost interest, he is hard to market because of his nationality, personality and style and I think that they think he is too old to push really hard. It also doesn't help him that they have so many good fighters around 122-126. They know as well as anyone else that he needs at least 4 fights before he can go in with the elite fighters and that will take and by then he may well be too old.

 

When it came to Rigo vs Casey matchmaking Rigo has been outlawed by HBO until he grows a pair of bulls and Casey would most likley lose to Kiko Martinez so his team are cashing out on him. Its excellent matchmaking.

 

Arce is fighting Vasquez Jnr for the WBO 122lbs title on the Pacquaio vs Mosley PPV.

 

The only reason he throws a jab is to throw a left. He'll throw about ten meaningless flicks with his right hand so he can throw a stright left. It's predictable, it's just a matter of guessing how many flicks he'll throw. He doesn't implement the things he should, no uppercut, no forceful jab, too much movement. I'm not discrediting his talent, he's a good fighter, but he doesn't offer much resistance to the divisions best.

At the moment all the elite 122lb North American Fighters are all inexperienced (with the exception of Molitor), not very well known and have not had much if any exposure on the major platforms.

I think he should have two more fights at 118, in which time those guys 122 can build their experienced and get more exposure. I think Molitor-Rigondeaux should happen in the Winter. WV2 should stay busy and whittle up a couple of defence's. Then at the end of this year or at the beginning of the next Donaire can move up and have a major fight rather then a big fight but one that is clearly smaller and less significant then the Montiel one.

 

I know but I think that is a very one sided fight, I think Arce-Rigondeaux would be more interesting and Rigo would have benefited more from that fight than WV2 will.

I disagree, I think Casey could beat Martinez and I think Rigo could fight on Top Rank Live/ESPN2/ShoBox a couple of times before taking on a more major fight in the Summer.

 

Can you see Top Rank doing anything with Rigo? His style sucks and he sells no tickets.

Better of building Vasquez Jnr. Exciting puerto rican with a fanbase and story.

Nope I think they have already lost interest, like you say his style sucks, his personality and attitude comes across as boring and uninterested, he can't sell tickets and even worse he is a 30 year old that had something like 2 years inactivity. They know he needs to face 3/4 trial war horses before they can or more rather could reap the benefits and because he doesn't sell tickets if they he wins in their inter house fights they lose.

Why go through all that when they already have a couple of fighters already lined up were they win regardless of wins the fight. I think he will be fairly inactive over the next year and they will wait until Donaire has passed through 122 before trying to push him to the forefront.

 

He will only fight the winner if its Agbeko. Mares is w/ GBP. Plus its not until April 23rd so Donaire should fight Moreno in May.

 

I cant see Moreno being willing to fight Donaire. It's a shame Hasegawa moved up, that would've been a good fight. Maybe Kameda?

 

I think he would like to stay at Bantamweight and unify the tites. Unfortunately I don't think Top Rank see it like that and I think he be moving up to 122.

Top Rank definitely don't want to deal with Golden Boy and they would prefer to not deal with Don King. Also Top Rank like having a long term plan in place when it comes to their fighters (especially their up and coming stars) and waiting around till late April to see who wins for a fight that could take place at earliest in August doesn't suit their style.

 

Moreno sounded willing from recent interviews and it sounds like he is bored of these routine title defense's, he is badly in need of a big challenge.

I don't think Top Rank would go for him, brings absolutely nothing to the table market wise other then the potential to add another top fighter to Donaire's slate which they don't care for.

 

Peterson fought Victor Ortiz a few months ago. They still make fights together even though they don't admit it!
