With No Discredit To Donaire, Did Montiel Get Old Overnight?

Grew old overnight? Don't picture it as if Montiel was outwit or outboxed for rounds. The bout didn't last more than six minutes. He was caught with a killer punch and anybody who gets caught with that kind of punch goes down.

 

Montiel took Jhonny Gonzalez' thunder for twelve rounds which tells you hard Donaire hits. A guy doesn't get magically old 10 monthes after his best performance, and two more impressive fights in between. Don't get me wrong he's been in some tough fights i.e. Two Sharp, Gonzalez, Valdez, Gorres, Melendez (BRTUAL FIGHT) but he was never more determined, focused, or conditioned than last night even if certain elements of his game were marginally frayed.

 

Yup, that was a beauty! The only suprise there is that he beat the count:yep

Frankly if anyone thinks he was drained at the weight or his body was too old to be in peak physical shape then ask yourself how he possibly beat the count. Cause clearly he had to be in great condition to get up from a shot like that.

Donaire can beat anybody. But has yet to be in a dog fight. Last night prove he's not a one hit wonder. But I seen him rocked by smaller guys. If i was his next opponenet I would bumb rush him. You can't try to outbox donaire. king kong would be a solid test. If Donaire beats him, he is unstopable in or around 122

 

In general, 31 years old is considered "past it" for fighters who weigh 118 pounds.

 

Thats a good point, I agree with that. I think he trained very hard for this fight, im just not sure that the weight came off as easily as usual.

And for all those who think I made this thread to take anything away from Nonito great performane, again, I didnt. I just think as far as Montiel goes, its had to ignore the fact that he was 134 in the ring. Im only speculating as to why. Im in no way saying that he would have beaten Donaire under any circumstance, thats not the point.

 

Yes . . . good physical condition and mentally tough and sound too.

You see . . . after the impact of such blow to the head, the brain shuts out momentarily and loses control of the body and yet you'll see Montiel unconciously trying to get up immediately after he went down.

All props to Montiel for a "steel" fighting heart.

 

Lol, thanks...but actually his brain didn't shut down. Thats the shocking thing...Sure he's completely buzzed as **** but if you look at his eyes he never loses conciousness and is always aware of the situation. Got to admit I'm not sue how that's possible given what his legs were ****ing doing when he went down.

it was either him or donaire who was eventually going to get caught with something big...it just happened to be donaire's best shot that happened first

He got caught with a punch he didnt see coming. It's part of boxing. He's a warrior and will be back. I got to give it to him for getting back on his feet.
