He lost two of his title holders this weekend in O'Donnell and Daws. It leaves him with; Carl Froch (WBC Super Middleweight) - Won't fight in the UK again until 2012. Darren Barker (British Middleweight) - Purse bids for European title fight with Spada due next monday Tyson Fury (English Heavyweight) - Mandatory for the British title but Chisora won't need to defend until at least September. Then he has Lenny Daws, John O'Donnell, Junior Witter and Lee Purdy all coming of losses, and recently lost John Murray. What does he do now?
It's tough without a TV deal. Of the fighters you have listed how many of the do you think would jump ship if they could, if it meant them getting regular dates on Sky? Don't forget he also lost any chance of Witter being involved in a big fight again.
He has 3 prized assets left that would sell tickets and attract decent TV figures. Every promoter in the country would wan't to sign them. They seem loyal to Mick thought. I fancy Warren and Hayemaker to bid on Barkers fight with Spada. They need a londoner to sell tickets on there next show April 2nd and May 21st. Fury just has to bide his time, eventually . Fury agaisnt a US Heavyweight like Chauncy Welliver would be a good addition to the Froch vs Johnson PPV in the US. Not sure who long any of them have left on there contracts pretty sure I read somewhere Carl has 1 more fight with Mick after the Super Six though.
Next show should be straightforward if he wins the Barker purse bids. Fury as chief support, maybe Mcdermott III? (Ideally for the vacant British but that aint gonna happen). Daws and O'Donell in comeback fights - it's another great show.
Makes sense to do Theophane with Barker next time. I reckon he won't win the bids though. Apparently only 2000 were in Wembley on saturday, most of them to see the Evangelou brothers who are with Matchroom.
I feel sorry for Mick he put on a good card and didnt get the tv or crowd it deserved and probably lost a lot of money and 2 champions. He may be reduced to reulding over the next few years he hasnt really got the talent coming through as he hasnt been able to afford to sign people. I think he has deals in Canada though so he can still get Barker/Fury exposure there. Still has a half decent stable though and O'Donnell, Fury, Barker and Daws will be in some decent fights and could pick up a few belts in the process. He obviously has Froch but thats really all thats kept him going. He deserves a Sky contract moreso than the 4 dates given to Haye
How on earth can you say that? His ITV dates werent in the same league as Warrens but they were a much higher standard than many of the current shows on Sky. We got Froch and Witter in world title fights Thaxtons in euro defences Barkr in British defences Murray in British defences Daws in ritish title defences Clev Macintosh, Macklin Elcock Tyson Fury became a big name on the undercards they werent high quality fights but on every show there were 3 competetive scraps. Aside from all that at the time he had the 2nd best stable in the country behind Warren. Froch Barker Murray Witter Thaxton Elcock Fury Daws O'Donnell yet a fledgling company like Hatton promotions was given a massive 2 year contract off the bat Matchroom despite having barely any fighters the same. As a result of Sky not offering him a contract we have seen the careers of Froch Barker and Murray severly hampered as a result
If you were a parent and your son was a fighter you'd be very concerned for his progress if he was a Hennessy fighter. Even if he showed ability and was doing well it would still take an interminable amount of time to make any proper headway. Froch took a ludicrous amount of time to make into the world level mix whilst not being particularly active either. This has led to him being overactive and cramming hard fights into the 'end' of his career when he's only really just burst through. At least Murray eventually saw the light before he took one too many headshots on a second rate bill in a backwater leisure centre. It can be good to have a number of decent promoters, but a shame to see poor ones stall the careers of good fighters. Hopefully Hennessy is on the way out.
