    I have never seen this before.



    Hearns dominates Ali in a sparring match. Probably right before Ali's last match.

    (I feel a little silly mentioning this since you probably know about what I'm gonna say)

    Ali was known for having sparring sessions in which he did little to nothing. More often than not, he'd allow the other fighter to "pound" him. Or he'd clown the guy. Either or.

    It was more of a cathartic exercise for Ali to do so.

    There's something I forgot to say, thank you. That's incredible footage.

    Anybody have info on Jeff Stoudemire? I did the regular boxrec, and it looks like he was a known sparring partner with a mediocre record.

    Yea I know Ali is not really trying his best. But hes in real bad shape right there, definitely already affected by the parkinsons



    But what I really like is how you see Hearns right hand snap Ali's head back like that. I also liked Ali's bolo uppercut at the beginning

    Ali took a lot of punches in his career. He took a lot more than were necessary. And yes, there were times where he endured long term damage just training for fights, getting accustomed to the blows.


    But it was more his parkinsons than anything. He would have had it without boxing.

    Probably the Liston, Liston, Patterson, Patterson, Foreman, Norton, Norton, Norton, Chuvalo, Chuvalo, Holmes, Berbick, Spinks, Spinks, Ellis, B. Foster, M. Foster, Quarry, Quarry, Bugner, Bugner, Bonavena, Shavers, Mathis, Lyle, Cooper, Cooper, Williams, Terrell, Folley, Frazier, Frazier and Frazier lineup had more to do with it, but the sparring method couldn't have helped much either.

    It did accelerate the effects mildly, however boxing had nowhere near the effect on his current condition the way people today think.


    Most boxers who have a career like Ali's, fighting all the big punchers he fought, yet not having a single scar on his face, do not normally show the "punch drunk" effects.

    This content is protected




    The only "wear and tear" shown on his face is that from his disease.

    Another way to tell, is by seeing how he started slurring his speech early on. While he was in his mid thirties.


    You dont go punch drunk in your mid thirties

    Yup, and if you think about it, todays common pop culture idea of boxers becoming punch drunk has to do largely with Ali.


    Doesnt Tyson seem....sharper if anything since retirement?

    Yes, he did fight magnificent opposition, yet you have to wonder about the amount of damage accrued from sparring. Taking shots from Roy "Tiger" Williams can't be good for your health.

    I mean ****, Frazier alone, that's enough damage to take any fighter out of the game (or lose a step there of).
