Oscar not so much, but part of the reason why Floyd and Tyson were so popular is they incited strong reactions from fans. Their brashness and bravado either caused you to love them or hate them. Therefore when they fought, people watched because they either wanted them to win or get KTFO.

Pacquiao is a humble guy who doesn't really stir up hate by trash-talking like the other two. For that reason, I don't think he would generate that much controversy and wouldn't be as popular with the media.

Also, Asians represent a very small segment of American society, so there would be less pressure for the media to cover him.

Not Tyson. Tyson was at the Madonna and The Beatles level of fame in his day. You probably had to be around to realize how big a phenom he was.

This is a really good point. He would not be any bigger than Oscar if he was American but he would be bigger than Floyed. Tyson was miles bigger. I don't understand how anyone can complain that he would be bigger in America if he was American though if this is what this thread is trying to do. He obviously wouldn't be as big in the Philipines if he was not Philipino.

Certainly not bigger than Tyson, great heavies always trumph all over weight classes. And its very possible that if he were American the Philipeans and other asian countries wouldn't support him nearly as much. American's support their fighters, but other countries will go to h*ll and back for theirs. Pac is as big as he is cause he's from the Philipeans. No, actually he's as big as he is cause he's just that d*mn good!

 

Good question, different answer for both. If he were white he'd be ****ing huge. Probably not bigger than Tyson but the closest. If he were Filipino-American he'd be less popular because a large amount of his popularity is because of who is he and what he represents in his country now.
