sure young would frustrate braddock but he was a very gritty tough guy who was always on the hunt. might be a tough night for young even if he gets the nod.
Young by decision. too slick and good. Braddock his his moments but young takes it by slick decision imo
I see Young avoiding his way from danger to a decision loss, albeit a controversial one...Followed by him donating ten percent of his future purses to the Cinderella Man (no homo) Foundation.
and Super Ron Lyle. No ****. Enough with Young. Braddock was damned slick in his own way, and I'll say it, fought in a much tougher era than the cesspool of late 70's washed up heavies.
I agree Young would win but Braddock was tough and game enough to make it tougher than other people are saying.
Such a fight would never had happenad. Not a single boxing fan would have paid to see this fight. TV money - No way. Young would probably have won, but nobody would have cared. Woller
My apologies B.E.,...an overlooked question...although they were both defensive geniuses..they approached this status from different avenues of course..Loughran from a classic fencer style left jab with the hands held low, and always the mobile dance master...and my man Young, with his vaseline slick, subtle negativity, hard to pin down as a phantom counterpunching style. Young, "whilst" not as fleetfooted and mobile as Tommy, was probably even better defensively..and he positively shone vs an honest, straight-up boxer/puncher like Braddock. Without having to worry about his foe's power and being excessively pressured, he would accomplish virtually the same things that Loughran was able to do vs the Cinderella Man, namely to counter and bedevil Braqddock all night long. Jim would have more luck trying to nail jello to the wall in the dark as he would trying to hit Young solidly, and it would be a counterpunching clinic put on by Jimmy. Though never a champion, Young was every bit as distinguished as Loughran as a boxer and even more adept as a defensive whiz, whereas Tommy was more of a virtuoso with the jab. Young may very well have shut out Braddock, IMO.
Young would have been a wonderful addition to the 30's...he'd have been a champion against any of the titlists between Tunney and Louis...and I'm not downgrading them at all, in fact, I love those guys...always have, yet Young would have beaten any of them.
