In all 3 fights Frazier was on Alis chest all night, begging for uppercuts, but Clay never threw one. The closest he came was that left hookercut he throw now and then.

Why didnt Clay throw uppercuts at Frazier? :think

Sumbu Kalambay was yet to invent the punch.

Can't hold it against Ali he was born too early.

really? I always see him throwing the uppercuts at Frazier, and every time I do I cringe because it leaves him open for the hooks

Are you talking about the left hookercuts thingies? I suppose, but i never saw him throw a proper, vertical right upppercut like Lewis did to Tyson

because it exposes him to the left hook which frazier did a lot anyway

Ali couldn't swing big uppercuts at him like Foreman, not his game, and he didn't have the power to put him away. Frazier would eat it to catch him with his hooks.

Watch the KD in FOTC again. Uppercuts is a dangerous business against a hooked like Frazier. With that said, he threw uppercuts.

A much better question is why he didn't go more to the body against Terrell. Really annoys me when I watch that fight.

True, that drug-addict Old Tyson didn't even know what a lefthook was, plus he was a shot-to-****, gassed flabby zombie on tranquilisers, & a completely stationary plodding target with no defense.

He threw them on the outside-middle a bit more, but Ali's skill set isn't particularly geared toward the situation you're referring to... He wasn't a good short puncher and inside game isn't his thing, both of which he'd have needed to pull off using uppers to keep Frazier off him. Risky to begin with, considering that hair trigger left hook anyway.

Eddie Futch said that Ali couldn't throw a right uppercut properly, that there was no weight behind it.

He told smoknig joe, every time you see Ali abotu to throw an uppercut, throw a left hook.

Muhammad Ali did try the upper-cuts early in FOTC...

As he stated, he saw what Mexican Heavyweight Manual Ramos did to
Smokin Joe in Round 1 in their Title bout.

And it was Roy Williams who spent a day or two in Joe's Concord Hotel Camp,
and was asked to leave after buckling Joe's legs with right upper-cuts in
    two consecutive sparring sessions.
