"The $100,000,000 Fight", Tyson-Holy '91, Ring Magazine Tactical Analysis

I already said in post #2 that i could see Holy winning this closely contested war, but it wouldn't be because of "too much mental strenght & belief".

Both warriors would've went at it, willing in die in a legendary war of upmost vicious combat, each readily trading their headbutts, elbows, lowblows & walking through hell as they absorb cruel combinations thrown with bad intentions...

 

:dealI know you did mate, it's just i never underestimate the power of self belief, especially at the elite level of sport, and it took all of Holyfield's self belief to overcome Tyson in '96 has it would of done possibly even more in '91, because both men were physically different fighters then.
Like you say though, whatever years these men fought in, it would always be a war.

 

doesn't matter what people thought before the fight. ppl thought Oscar was gonna run over Pacquiao . Tyson was a shell of himself after prison. Holyfield was past his best too but obviously had a lot more going for him then Tyson did at that point. Tyson had lost all of skills. All he had left was the speed and knockout power.

Watching that clip now, I see how old Holyfield really looked then, in '96. His speed -hands and feet- and accuracy was nothing compared to what he had in '90. All those wars really had damaged him physically, but it was harder to tell because he overcame it so well.

 

Tyson would have whoop the real deal ass back then.

 

You know, this fight is the fantasy matchup that tops my list, its as close to prime as both fighters could get to facing each other, shame it didnt go ahead (thanks mike) because as entertaining as the eventual 96 showdown was, it was more of a tyson media circus....

If it happened this version of a Tyson-Holyfield fight would have been THE war to end all wars....

 

Man.. That would have been an ATG heavyweight TITLE FIGHT, without question.. maybe the greatest, for all out action. Two of the fastest (yet destructive) heavyweights you could ever possibly put together. We wuz robbed!
