Rank in order thiese seven 80's heavyweights. I feel on a good night any of them might've upset Holmes (except maybe Berbick). I'd say:

    1) Witherspoon
    2) Thomas
    3) Page
    4) Dokes
    5) Tubbs
    6) Coetzee
    7) Berbick

But it's tough, and I could see it shuffled around very easily.

This is a good list of all the under achieving and forgotten heavyweight's of the 80's. They all could have been so much more.

    On any given night:
    Witherspoon
    Dokes
    Page
    Thomas
    Coetzee
    Tubbs
    Berbick

At their very best, I'd vault Page to the top. He had loads of talent.

Head to head at their best Berbick's the worst imo, Coatzee second to the bottom. Other than that, the top 5 could be arranged in just about any order although I'd prefer Spoon at 1.

    1) Thomas - Excellent fighter who beat a prim Spoon. Drugs made him decline in skill rapidly.
    2) Witherspoon - Very good fighter who got derailed by managerial problems and laziness.
    3) Page - A guy with good sized blessed with Ali and Holmesish skills. Too bad he was too lazy to apply them.
    4) Dokes - One of the quickest HW's at the time. Very good boxer who was felled by the narcotic.
    5) Berbick - Limited hustler who's workrate and pressure won him fights.
    6) Tubbs - Excellent, but lazy boxer/
    7) Coetzee - Big bomber with a weak chin.

No i dont think a prime Holmes but most would give him a tough fight, i remember at one time (before he lost to Berbick) many including myself thought Pinklon Thomas had replaced Holmes as the top heavyweight in the world... Pinklon was underrated and lot of people have forgotten(or just dont know) how highly regarded he was, but his prime didnt last long. Prime Thomas beat a prime WItherspoon by the way.

    1. Thomas
    2. Witherspoon
You can arrange the next 4 any way you want with out an argument
    7. Berbick

Remember, Holmes' legacy is built on beating some of these "chumps".

Cooney is not in the List.

Could be Holmes is overrated too.

Witherspoon was the best at his best ... the rest are all in the same lot as one beats one and loses to another ...
