José Napoles vs Mickey Walker

walker. too strong, hits too hard and is too tough. napoles is quick, sharp and his movement is brilliant. but walker closes him down and outmuscles him on the inside and outpunches him on the outside/middle distances. by the 10th, walker has ground him down for a TKO

 

Napoles, better boxer, more primed and proven at the weight, the complete package

 

you and pp are right but i have trouble giving this to napoles. i don't know why: i rank walker higher all time and while napoles was great at 147, he was small at 147 (and tiny at middle). for me, walker's vastly superior strength and underrated skills would catch napoles eventually

 

Walker eventually takes this one by TKO. As said earlier, just a bigger, stronger man who would outmuscle the great but smaller man, who's one who cuts easily, too.

 

Walker was too big and naturally stronger for the slippery Joe Naps... Naps does well early while fresh, but then begins to wear down and prolly gets battered and stopped late in a 15 rounder....

Napoles would be smooth and slick as always and he would pose huge problems for Walker. But in the end I don´t think it would be enough. Walker wasn´t primed, perhaps a bit inexperienced and his skills weren´t fully developed. But he was also the bigger, more aggressive fighter. And he was good enough to hang in with Jack Britton who I consider a better ww than Napoles. I really think Walker was that good. Good fight match-up.

 

At Welter ill take Napoles. He was outboxed by slick types at 147, and those guys had nothing on Napoles.

 

As strong as Walker was..I go with the smooth as butter Napoles here..and he would be dealing strictly on his slick boxing style and not so much power. Napoles would avoid any tests of strengh here and box his way to a close decision over the ever aggressive Toy bulldog..

 

I don´t think he can do that enough to win. You need power to keep Walker of like Latzo did. As much power as José had. I don´t think it´s enough.

 

Napoles could seriously whack though...smallish for a welter but he broke bones at the weight and knocked guys out cold.

Dont know much about Latzo, think I saw a clip of him once...you reckon he hits harder? Hard to tell from his record.

 

He had Walker hurt, that´s more than any hw outside of Schmeling was able to do. So, I guess he had serious power. Napoles had serious power, I don´t think he can hurt Walker though. This is a very even fight and I think the decider is if Napoles can make Walker cautious. If he can´t he loses.

 

I think a lot of factors can go into hurting a fighter...being bigger isnt necessarily one of them.

Pac was stopped at fly, dropped heavily at 122 and 126...but has been taking solid shots from welters fairly well.

I think the accuracy, timing and angles of Napoles could catch out Walker with something he doesnt see coming during his bullrushes..perhaps doing more damage then a slower and more predictable heavy could ever do.

It is a very interesting fight....In a lot of ways Walker is all wrong for Napoles but there is a lot of video evidence of the quality of Napoles at welter..whereas many say Walker was pre-prime there.

I agree. Napoles certainly can. But he has to do so consistently to keep Mickey honest. I don´t know if he can do that. It´s a great fight. Tough to call. But there are people who think Walker has a shot at Robinson at welter, or so I read, so he couldn´t have been that bad at welter.
