He certainly does. I honestly dont think many, if any, fighters would show that kind of heart and compassion in a moment like that. Really incredible unbelievable moment.
Yeah. The retired boxers foundation is taking donations for him of Im pretty sure you can send something directly to his family. Ill try to find out more.
Yea real classy guy and a good technical fighter in his day. Despite some smack they talk, it still bothers me when I see Floyd Sr with his lung illness or Roach with Parkinson's. And when it's a really nice guy like Hernandez your heart sinks and you really want them to pull through. VAMOS CHICANITO NO SE RAJE!

In that LA Times article it states that in Chicanito's fight with Nelson, Nelson threw a shot after that bell that knocked out Chicanito...... .....let me clarify, I saw that fight.....Nelson landed a shot to Chicanito's throat after the bell had rung. Chicanito went down instantly but as I remember it, he never lost conciousness. As you would expect a hard shot clear to the esophogus is going to hurt like crazy. Chicanito remained on the canvas for a few minutes, and it was up to him if he wanted to continue, he said yes. What I remember most about that fight is that when the decision was read and Chicanito was pronounced the champion having taken away Nelson's title, the title belt was ceromoniously strapped around Chicanito's waist. I have to mention that Nelson was at the tail end of his career, on his way out.......Nelson at this point was highly respected by his peers and a legend. What Chicanito did next I'll never forget......Chicanito took his new won title belt, strapped it around Azumah Nelson's waist, and insisted the "Proffesor" walk out of the ring with the title belt strapped around his waist. That type of gesture nowdays is unseen by the younger fighters toppling over respected champions. Seeing that gave me goosebumps then, and it still does thinking about it today.
I am very sad to give everyone an update on Genaro's condition. He has taken a turn for the worst and it seems there is nothing more that can be done for him medically. I know we are all keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers during their toughest hours. Genaro is a great champion and as a boxing fan I was always humbled to watch him fight with so much courage and determination. I am even more humbled to see him face this fight with the same warrior mentality and and mental toughness.
