A current thread about Canelo brought this up. Who has been the fastest MExican fighter. We are never known for our speed. Its usually power, chin, heart and work rate which describes the Mexican fighter. Have we ever had any slick ones like the typical African American fighter?? Im trying to think and i cant really think of any slicks ones. DLH was pretty fast but not slick. Sanchez had good hand speed but not slick. Who??
Julio Cesar Chavez had really underrated Defense I wouldn't call it slick and he had Ok speed, but I think Montiel has to be the quickest and he can be illusive when he wats to.
Yes Morales did have good hand speed. I guess i was thinking more of a slick speedster. I honestly can not think of one.
the list to choose from is small since that's not the mexican style most fighters that fought like that were mexican american. 1. DLH 2. Maromero Paez 3. Vargas 4. Finito Lopez :hat
No way man. Montiel is actually kind of stiff. I think Morales and Barrera are more fluid than him. Montiel is like a lil cobra poised for attack at all time.
I think probably Barrera in his prime had the best raw handspeed, have not see much of Lopez, but it makes since he would be a bit quicker. Sal Sanchez was okay, no? JCC sr had toughness, power, great slipping, but he was honestly slow as molasses. a+ everything else and b- speed. Oscar was so fast I don't even think of him as Mexican. He's an american boxer puncher, you can look at his handspeed and tell even before you hear his spanish.
If De La Hoya is representative of Mexico, then he's by far the fastest Mexican I've seen. Otherwise Montiel / MAB. Saying that, speed is a bit overrated.
