I think for my money it is Duran - Barkey.

First you have Barkley coming off a win over Hearns, and now looking at Duran who destroyed his deceased friend Moore. Duran still trying at 38 to shake the demons of No Mas.

Barkley fought like he hated Duran, you could see it in his face. He stood toe-up with Roberto and gave as good as he got. Duran for his part was as crafty a demon as he had ever been in his career.

He shook Barkley early, and you though it might be over, but Barkley came back roaring. Each round was war. Each round. Barkley was landing three to one, but Duran was countering beautifully.

As the fight grew the commentation (which was spot on) was getting to understand that this fight was special. At one point one of commentator noticed that Duran slipped four punches in a row. The fighter are starting to glare at each other after every round. (Duran looks like a demon and Barkley is so full of hate that he doesn't see a human)

One round Barkley caught Roberto and nearly spinned him all around. Duran for his part, waved in Barkley and punched back while still hurt. (Heart)

But, after that we noticed that Duran was slowing landing harder punches and Hurting Barkley. In the 11th Duran caught Barkley with one of the sweetest combinations ever thrown. Duran lead with a right, hook, right, hook combination that put the tough, tough Barkley down. Barkley gets up and Duran strolls over to him with his hands down, not excited, calm, looking for finishing punches.

Barkley survives and in the final round is having a rally. Duran is fighting in spurts. At the final bell they give one last Great Glare as each corner comes in to congratulate thier fighters.

(Chill bumps on how great this fight was)

I say this is the greatest fight ever because the only thing at stake was respect. Forget the title. Duran in my oppinion avenged the No Mas at 38 fighting a guy that looked like a light-heavyweight, and Barkley fought on behalf of his friend with all the respect that came with it.

    Thoughts?

Duran - Barkley is my number 5. It's excellent. Sustained action, flush shots being landed with regularity, and of course the drama involving an old man beating up a much bigger foe. I had it relatively clear for Duran...3-4 points.

Barrera-Morales I is the greatest fight I've ever seen, though.

benn-mclellan is the most exciting fight i've ever seen, only remembered now for the tragic outcome

To me, Duran partially redeemed himself for New Orleans with Moore. I saw Barkley as his redemption for Hearns, especially after The Blade went on to defeat Tommy yet a second time. El Cholo prevailed over what may have been Iran's greatest performance. He floored and defeated the conqueror of his own conqueror.

If the Greatest fight, as part of the enjoyment is able to factor in the excitement of the Pre-fight expectation and tension, then i do not think many can come close to Ali - Frazier 1st - a true Global Event, Communist Countries were peeping over that old Iron Curtain, African and Asian nations, perhaps not yet fully blessed with satallite technology knew something special in the sporting and political world was happening.
    - And a great actual fight too !

Barrera Morales 1 is my number one i think, i think.

Duran-Leonard 1 touches my heart (no homo) more than any other fight though. What they went through and put on display that night for fans of boxing then and thereafter is just unreal.

    Goto agree with these 2 picks, I'd add Toney-McCallum, Tyson-Holyfield, Ali-Frazier 1, Eubank-Benn 1, Eubank-Watson 2, Marciano-Walcott 1, Hamed-Kelly, Hagler-Hearns for nominations.

And Mitchell-Johansson and Moore-Maklin for great British domestic dust ups on par with Gatti-Ward

  11. Eubank Watson 2 , the most exciting and dramatic finish to a fight ever , although the Watson tragedy a real shame.

I couldn't belive my eyes when Holyfield and Bowe went at it the first time. Chavez and Taylor also had enough drama to last 3 decades.
