And apparently a fight between the 2 is being discussed for May. It appears that Donaire really is planning to unify all of the belts at bantamweight, which IMO, is a really good thing for both him and boxing on the whole. Donaire won't have a problem with Moreno. To be brutally honest, he's not all that good. He's an awkward and difficult fighter, who is hard to sustainably land on and get in range with, but other than his awkwardness, he really is rather limited. How many of his top 5 wins have been clear cut? Both the Cermeno, Sidorenko, and Monshipour fights, (all of which I have seen and scored) have been razor thin wins for Anselmo. And considering is flaws and the fact that his best win is over Sidorenko, who Donaire KO'd in 4 rounds, I doubt Nonito will have much trouble. He's not an easy man to KO, is El Chemito, but considering what Donaire did to Montiel.............a stoppage win for the Flash could be the best bet for this fight.
Donaire would dispose of him handily. For a supposed counter-puncher, Moreno is quite predictable. And you'd expect Donaire to be smart enough to realise after a few rounds when Moreno's going to throw one of his straight lefts, step to the side, and crack him with a left hook. He doesn't use his height and reach advantages, and relies mostly on his speed. Problem is, Donaire is faster. In fact, Moreno's screwed if this comes off. People tend to overrate him because he's always called underrated, similar to Chris John. Plus, in recent months, he's become really undisciplined, that's going to work against him further. He needs all the help he can get here, being underprepared wont do that.
That was Nehomar Cermeno, who Moreno himself beat twice. It's easy getting these obscure 118 pounders mixed up. Oh and jpab19 I completely agree with everything you say. Esp/ the Chris John comparison.
That's Cermeno. Cermeno beat Cristian twice, and Moreno beat Cermeno twice. Mijares is much better than both IMO, the move up to bantam was never going to work out for him.
Can't say nothing but utmost respect to Donaire if he takes on the dark horse of the BW division. Moreno is an elite yet unknown BW champion, him, Nonito and King Kong are clearly the best of the 118lbs pack. His style would give Donaire major diffuculties and it wouldn't be an explosive but a technical fight, but that is cool with me, plus Chemito deserves the limelight, he quietly put on one of the most impressive BW resume around.
I disagree. I dont think Moreno would beat either of those, Mares or Perez. Though I do think he could beat Darchinyan or Kameda. From watching him, I dont get why people rate him that highly. He's decent, has good speed and accuracy, but I dont rank him near the top of the division.
he has no power! Moves in a quirky herky jerky way so it is difficult to time him but he seriously does not have power. He is like a crude version of Whitaker.
Styles make fights and his is very hard to beat. Not being eye-catching or explosive doesn't mean he's lesser to hard hitting, crowd pleasing fighters. He'd give every BW a run for their money.
He'd obviously give them hard fights, but winning? I dont think so. I dont think he could deal with somebody as high-octane as a Perez, and intelligent fighters would be able to pick up on the things he does wrong. I prefer boxer types to brawler types, but Moreno doesn't an awful for me. For someone with his style, he's very predictable, he has no variety in his punches and constantly wastes energy. As I say, Darchinyan, Kameda and everybody below, he beats(IMO). But Donaire, Montiel(if he hasn't been ruined), Agbeko, Mares, Perez all beat him I think. He's overrated because he's underrated.
Moreno is very slick boxer with hit and run style, but I believe his record is very overrated, iI think he lost his first fight with Cermeno, and had draws in Cermeno 2 and Sidorenko 1. Also his defense is more dodging and running from punches than blocking them what would be as dangerous as russian roulette against Donaire. Donaire by Ko.
Moreno's a good fighter who's going to look worse than what he is by the time Donaire gets his hands on him.
it would be nice to see him unify the belts but nobody knows who anselmo moreno is outside hardcore boxing circles, I don't see him getting much money for the fight unless donaire went to panama
