OK man, you are putting WAY too much value in KO's. A win is a win. Pernell Witaker isn't a KO artist, but he's sure as hell better than Edwin Valero. You're saying stuff like "He beat all of his 35 opponents, but he didn't knock any of them out"
Winning a fight by early KO just shows you have more power MOST OF THE TIME, but it doesn't show you're a better fighter than somebody that it took longer to do it.

Also the you should watch the Cintron/Martinez fight and come back and give me your scorecard and you'll respect that performance more
I agree on Marquez being rated behind Donaire right now because of his age and the Mayweather fight demoted him some, but Donaire does not overtake Martinez

Before the Martinez/Williams II fight, I had Paul Willaims ranked number 3/4 p4p. Montiel is a good fighter also, but I hold a win over Williams higher

Yup I agree with most of this but if you take it a little further logically you can understand that MArquez is fighting men that for the most part are much bigger men then he is.

I honestly don't have a big problem with you believing Nonito is a better fighter then Marquez. You may be right, time will tell. Its tough to separate them because they are both obviously great fighters. Marquez may becoming to the end in any case and in many respects you can argue that he was at best more of a resourceful fighter then an very skilled one. I wouldn't quite put nonito up there yet though. There are still acouple of great fighters at his weight with different qualities that my bringing out different aspects of Nonito's game where he to face them. Also it'll be interesting to see how he fairs against men closer to his own size. People always raved about Paul Williams at 147 lbs but holes started popping up in his game, left, right and center once he started facing guys closer to his won size. Doubt that'll happen with Nonito but you get where I'm going with that.

its not just the KOs by themselves, its who he did them too which was quality opposition. Edwin Valero never fought anyone who was elite. floyd doesn't ko opponents much anymore but he still puts on impressive performances, just different avenues and ways of going about it. I actually don't even demote marquez because of the mayweather loss-coming up 2 weight classes is not a fair fight, it would be like pacquaio going up to fight andre ward at super middlweight.

Paul Williams was an impressive win for him there is no denying that but Bhop already wrote the book on Pavlik, that win although nice wasn't as impressive, I actually think that if Pavlik didn't get cut he would have beat martinez, he was timing him well in the early rounds

yeah marquez might be fighting bigger men so he can get a rematch with pacquiao. Marquez is resourceful and he's got a few more fights left in the tank if you ask me.

Nonito is just a skinny boxer even though he is tall for a bantamweight, hell montiel was 8 lbs heavier on fight night

i see a sad amount of "exciting" "fun" as reasons

P4P should not be a popularity contest

(i like nonito too, so don't think i am hating on him)

    /agreed

its silly and immature that a thread is here which derives natural contention on what is obviously subjective in itself. Im happy that Nonito Donaire is in everyone's top 5 P4P, who is noteworthy and a professional boxing analyst.

To fight and snivel about who's #1, who's #2, who's #3 is just frivalous. I dont even care if some say PBF is #1, or that JMM/Donaire is higher than Pac. Or that Martinez is above them all. There's a core thats on the top of their game. Trying to rationalize one is better than the other is a very subjective matter, considering they dont share the same weight classes...

its not silly and immature, discussion is always good. someone brings up a good point about a certain fight or fighter and people become more knowledgable about the sport.

I think HBO is learning their lesson, I guess the HBO executives were being very appreciative of nonito at the post fight presser.

The Ring magazine gave Donaire the edge over Martinez when comparng their last 10 fights. Stats below show Donaire has faced stiffer competition than Martinez has the last 10 fights. If you go by their whole career, the difference between the 2 fighter widens even more as Martinez faced bum after bum after bum. Just 9 fights before, Martinez fought a boxer in Spain with a 3-34-2 record.

    Last 10 fights

    Record
    Donaire: 10-0
    Martinez: 8-1-1

    Opponents record
    Donaire: 247-24-7 (89%)
    Martinez: 246-66-4 (78%)
