    Presser for Lemieux-Gates today...

They stare at each other for a little while, then must turn to the cameras --> Lemieux switches from a plain serious face to a presidential smile.

Gates: "You kno, mos people gat fear befo they step into the ring (...) but I've come here to fight, and may the best man win"

They put it as the 'end of an era' for Lemieux, who'll be facing world level competition after this fight. Yep, he mentioned Martinez & Pirog. No worries? Not quite.

On a side note, David said that Pascal NEVER looked so -physically- strong at a training camp, and that the current Miami camp he's at was clearly way better all-around than the one he got before he faced Dawson. He also said Pascal looked.. solid.

Hey, I was almost kidding. That was wishful thinking. Sturm would never sign this deal, regardless of how David beats Rubio. :D

Pirog vs Lemieux for the WBO belt in Dec/Jan/Feb.

You heard it here first. Pirog and Lemieux should make their debuts on Boxing After Dark sometime in the summer, and could make for one of the best punchers matchup in a long time... winter 11/12, WCB. Don't say you wouldn't like to see this. :D

that would suck, I want sturm out of the picture first and then martinez to take care of chavez. Then we can have these 3 champs battle it out. I think Pirog will beat lemieux, he is slick and bigger, martinez also has movement. Against sturm he will be able get inside with his short reach and land some bombs against this jabbing come forward fighter.

It'd be nice if boxers who run lip actually do something in boxing first. Lemieux is just another Canadian hype-job as of right now.

Perhaps eventually, but not now.He wouldn't stand much of a chance unless he got lucky with a big shot. Why take such a risk at his age.Doesn't make any sense at all.

Yeah, you didn't get the point here here. He's not calling out Martinez or Pirog per say, he's saying he'd surely be at his best if he were to fight either of the two. If you seriously think this kid is nothing but a hype job, you've got some watching to do. He has very good fundamentals and KO power in both hands. By the time he's 25, he'll fighting big names left right & center.

Fair comment. Martinez would make fun of him in the ring at this point. Don't know about Pirog, he seems very hard to adapt to. Not that Jacobs had great ring intelligence, but Pirog needs to show us some more before we label him a beast.

I know David is still a pup, but GYM and the whole Quebec crowd want to see him in a championship fight before Nov/Dec when the Fast & Furious Friday night series kick off again (ESPN2 showed a couple of their cards so far, and Lemieux's fight on April 8th is on FNF).

BTW look out for 147 pounder Kevin Bizier next year, we'll see if he's got more potential than Décarie (who I think will fail at world level).

Chavez Jr will NEVER fight Lemieux. Forget it. If the pressure accumulates, maybe we could see it sometime in 2012 - no way does JCC Jr fight a puncher in his first year as a "champ". Zbik is hoping to fight Sturm or Sylvester in a German unification fight, which could maybe delay David's mandatory shot down the road... that leaves Pirog, who could be willing come Oct/Nov. Pirog-Lemieux on HBO please. :D

Too bad David didn't come around earlier. Built up at the right level, he could have been the one facing Jacobs for the WBO belt at the time. Great matchup too.

Rubio vs Jacobs is a close one. Might even be Rubio late TKO. I mean, Pirog's only marquee win is Jacobs. Ok, Jantuah counts. But David is gonna see an increased level of opposition every time he steps in the ring now, and I have no ****in clue of who his opponent will be next summer. I'll be at Lemieux-Rubio, ****in pumped for that.
