Mayweather fans, is Floyd's inactivity, age, a worry for you in a potential fight with Manny, will that allow Manny to bridge the gap in talent, are you still as confident he will win?

Not really. Boxing for Floyd is as natural as walking, or breathing. He's been doing it since he could walk and its apart of him. I don't think the inactivity will effect like it may some other fighters.

I'm not a huge Floyd fan but I think the issues mentioned would affect him if he could find an opponent good enough

nah us floyd fans want our baby to rest and enjoy himself, we dont care what he does in the ring, as long as he's happy outside it then we are happy.

Yes big time, hes old now at 34 no matter how hard he trains, he looked significantly slowed in his last 2 and he'll be more slowed this/next year, less stamina, less workrate. He can still beat Pacquaio, I think Khan's the bigger challenge than Pacquaio stylistically, so hope they just get in with Pac and then Khan before he gets too old (after Khan beats Bradley)

He didnt look slow to me at all, I agree that a prime khan has a chance with his ambush style, Normally I would pick floyd but with his age and inactivity and khan still growing this could be a close fight. Pac could be a close fight as well.

Seriously though, can you see him fighting a young buck like Amir Khan, who is a longer than Pac, and possibly quicker?

khan has a lot of holes in his defense, his inside work sucks and lacks head movement, and has a bad chin. I can definitly see floyd making him come up to 147 to try and beat him (without realizing that it might backfire) it seems to fit the pattern of floyd.

    This.
Floyd knows what hes doing, he mentions it all the time, floyd mayweather jr is a very smart man and he knows what hes capable of and if hes gonna fight pacquiao its because he knows he'll beat him.

Good thread, gooners. I've been meaning to ask the exact same question, but I didn't think the majority of Floyd fans would be mature enough to give an honest answer. Because I, as a Pacquiao fan, would be extremely concerned if Pacquiao was as inactive as Floyd is. But with that said, Mayweather is built differently from Pacquiao. He no longer relies that much on his physical attributes to win fights. It's his experience, intelligence and skill which allow him to prevail the way he does. I understand his movement, reflexes and speed could deteriorate, but even then, he'd need to be doing really bad things in his lay-off - drinking, drug-taking, getting fat etc - for those things to be affected. Floyd is very disciplined in these regards.

Pac is around the same age.

When both fighters begin to lose their speed...it comes down to skills....who is the more skillful fighter?

with pacs style he is more likely to burn out faster. Mayweather has never really taken punishment he will more likely be fitter then pac and therefore wait for him to slow down, a page of the leonard vs hagler book:patsch
