Marciano was ahead on 3 score cards against Moore by scores of 5-2-1, 7-1, and 5-3. Against Walcott, he was down 4-7-1, 5-7, and 4-8. Keep in mind he was blinded for 3 rounds by the same stuff that blinded Clay in his fight with Liston.

All superior punchers to Ruiz? I don't think so Ruiz had more weight behind his shots than most champions and how many have floored Holyfield, even if past prime?

There are many Lineal HW Champs who weren't massive punchers and being a massive puncher does not mean you land your massive punch on a defensive great by default

I've never heard that story, can you provide any evidence?

I'm aware he was well up against Archie, he was well down against Walcott though, no doubt and I doubt by the 'he was blinded' story, unless we are talking about him being blinded by his own blood

 good trolling P, I don't think Jan is particular old though, his age was quite disapointing if I remember right?

I bet Jones could beat Chagaev. Who do you guys think beats Jones right now? As in who would you pick to beat him if they were scheduled to fight him tomorrow? Jones that beat Ruiz versus...

    W Klitschko
    V Klitscko
    Haye
    Povetkin
    Adamek
    Chagaev
    Chambers
    Boystov
    Valuev (!)
    Dimitrenko
    Arreola

    ...right now.

I'd give him a better chance against Moore than Walcott and Walcott than Charles. Anyone agree?

Walcotts power would be bad news. If he is lured into a Charles III style trap then he is not getting up from that for a long time. Walcott would also be a prety good candidate to engineer such a scenario.

Charles would engineer smaler but still potentialy catastrophic problems, more frequently throughout the fight.

Moore would probably be his best shot, but he would only need to bite on one trap and he would be toast.

For the prime of Pattersons heavyweight career he weighed less then Jones weighed against Ruiz. One of Pattersons big strengths is speed, but Roy is faster still.

Add to that Pattersons ropey chin and Jones explosive hands and a Jones Jr win is not an outlandish prospect. Infact id favour him.

patterson would beat jones, and it would be by brutal ko, not by close decision.

    at the ropey chins.

the difference is that patterson got knocked down and out by lineal hw champs, one of which is one of the best punchers ever. big difference between tarver, green etc and sonny liston in terms of punching power and ability.

Yep. If Jones stopped Patterson he'd join Liston and Johansson, two of the most devastating punchers at the weight, and GOAT Ali. Not bad for a guy whose 1-0 with 0 by KO at the weight.

On the subject of Dempsey I wouldnt write that off, boxing technique has coem on in leaps and bounds.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoSEEXIe6Gg[/ame]

Looks at the guy he faces, pretty much doesnt throw a jab all fight and he cant throw a straight right to save his life, its awful to watch. Dempsey still got knocked out of the ring by him, the guy just windmilled.

Id also back Jones over Jack Johnson for the aforementioned reason, technique was even more primitive then.
