Who will Mayweather fight in South Africa?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by checklefthook, Feb 27, 2011.

  1. Assuming he does end up fighting in July in South Africa?

  2. My gut feeling tells me Floyd will be fighting Berto.

I could only see him fighting a black fighter over there! I can't imagine a non black fighter wanting to fight in Africa.

Berto would be a good choice but I can't think of a who you could pick as a tune up fight, there isnt THAT much competition!

He'll never fight Hatton, he isnt like his brother he doesnt have much support and it wouldnt be very well watched.

The one thing you know about Floyd is he wants a BIG check for his exploits in the squared circle. So it has to be a fight he can sell I dont even think Hatton gets past Alverez.

I dont think he will be fighting anyone if it does happen in the summer there are 2 options, martinez or berto, then berto is the most logical choice for floyd.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Cotto

If Floyd is looking for a payday here then Cotto is the man that fight could deffo be sold

Roger said recently Floyd will need a warm up before a big fight. Paul Spadafora's name has been mentioned a lot. It's a complete mismatch on paper, but Spadafora's undefeated record and the sparring video of the two could sell the fight.

Of the names you listed, I guess Berto is the most likely, but neither of them seem desperate to challenge themselves at this point and Berto can't draw.
