No. Ol' Johnson fought stern comp. during his overall career, but his title reign in 1909 thru 1914 had a lall in quality heavies. It's kinda' a shame Jeff was too old in 1910 and Demps. was way too young and green in 1915...

I am still curious as to how the **** Johnson dropped a 20 round dec. to Hart in 1905... Hart was a marginal fighter at best and a lousy champion... Johnson in '05 should've KTFO of Hart...

My contention is that what was good at heavyweight pre-Dempsey does not hang post-1960. I'm sick of bending logic backwards to convince myself lil' Irish dandies like O'Brien, who drew with Johnson, would last 6 rounds in the biggest ring with any post-Liston top 10'er. Same for Hart, same for the footage available of Jeanette and McVea, for Burns... Sorry. And I am not saying they weren't good fighters in their own right and time, just the stye they fought at the size they fought in that division wouldn't translate.

You can say that about any champion. Jeffries came on right at the time Fitz and Corbett were on the slide. Dempsey came around when he could get away with avoiding names lik Langford and McVey. Even Joe Louis came around as Schmeling, Sharkey and even Braddock and Lewis had their best days behind them. That means its too uninteresting and generic.

Maybe the question you should really be asking is why you are so emotionally devoted to to try to tear down Jack Johnson's name irrationally. What has happened in your own experience to make that of such a paramount importance? Probably much more interesting and meaningful a question if you dare lol

Ray Robinson is lucky he never had to encounter a modern specimen like Kermit Cintron.

KC would "jump" all over Robinson. Would Robinson have but a clue as to how to deal with that? ...I think not.

yeah and johnson won about 5 with a couple of draws and a single loss i think . i personally could not blame johnson for taking the view that another fight against the same opponent might well be (A) hard to sell and (B) rather hard to motivate one's self for

 so true. Johnson following his dream against all odds should be inspiring, even to Mendoza.

So whats the thread title, did Jack Johnson benefit from Jim Cowardly Jeffries running from him like a little girl? Well he probably made more money waiting for Jeffries to grow a pair, so yes
