I guess he became an ATG SMW after beating Kessler and a full ATG after beating Jones/BHop in the USA (if you wanna strech reality a bit).
I dont think it works like that , for instance a lot of people say the fight that made Hatton was Tszyu , but that fight turned him into an ego, not a great fighter.
Yea I agree with IB. But if we're going by "career defining" fights, that's more realistic in terms of tyring to explain how a fighter was in his career showcasing just one fight. Gatti vs Ward I for me. And I think it's fair to say, it's a less common case, where it was both fighter's career defining fight.
beating cotto makes you an atg at a catch weight at that? cotto not even great b class atg sounds like a matter of opinion he is atg if he beats floyd and vice versa the atg list is to ****ing long if you ask me
Foreman is tricky but I'll say when he beat Frazier the second time. He also had a solid win against Norton. Hopkins beating Trinidad who was a MW champ after beating Joppy for the title. The Dlh win was good but that fight didn't need to happen especially since Oscar needed a gift against Strum anyways. After Jones beat Toney people knew he would amount to something more special and he did until he reached his downfall. Tyson beating Spinks especially in the dominating fashion he did. Possibly Benitez beating Duran. Trinidad beating the prime outta Vargas if he's considered an ATG which it's hard not to because of his dominance @ WW and his quality of wins overall even excluding his gift against DLH. Pacquiao beating Barrera. His best performance and one of the few that shows a prime ATG getting picked apart. He was already an ATG before he beat Cotto and a shot DLH. TBH, one fight doesn't make one an ATG or guys like Douglas would be one. ATG status happens when a guy faces the opposition they need to in order to prove why they're great and go on to have top performances. I'm still iffy whether or not to call guys like Vitali and Wladimir ATG's because they lack that career defining win but they're great you can't dispute that. It's also hard to call Calzaghe an ATG because he needed a bit more significant wins but he's great too and has beaten better guys than the K bros(Lacy, Eubank, & Kessler). I'm also iffy on calling Mosley one but he has one of the greatest wins of all time(DLH) and LW dominance so it's possible he's one.
