By Mark Vester(on boxing scene) The fight is contracted a at 150# catchweight. When the contract was signed there was no title at stake. Last week, the WBC approved the fight for their vacant title at 154#. Jeff Powell(Daily Mail reporter) was advised that the WBC will order both fighters to weight the 154 limit#. To make matters worse for Hatton, Powell was told that GBP will move the weigh-in from mid-afternoon to noon, which is going to provide Alvarez with additional time to rehydrate. Considering Hatton has weighed 157 earlier in his career, and that Alvarez was fighting at welterweight this time last year,it shouldn't be THAT big of an issue.
Did they order Pacquaio-Margarito to be at 154 since a title was at stake? Alvarez seems to be naturally bigger, so this should give him another advantage, as if he needs it.
both these guys are big WW/JMW who have fought recently @150 lbs..i don't see a size advantage for Alvarez..
This fight is yet another sham by the alphabet organizations. Just trying to fill their pockets. Woa just got a great business idea. Why dont we start a boxing organization. My dad has a belt guy in Mexico. He makes really good belts and is pretty cheap. We hire this guy to make us some fancy belts and we charge fighters to have the 'right' to wear them!! If you need to apply send me a PM and i will send you an invitation. We can talk about possible names for our prestigious organization and also we can talk about rank of belts we can give. Super Duper Champion of course should be the top guy.
Sad. Alvarez isn't going to have any trouble to begin with against the light-fisted, lesser Hatton, and now they're just stacking the deck more to be sure that he gets his paper title.
Regardless of what weight this fight takes place at, its a pathetic match up and certainly not worthy of being a main event on an HBO card.
I would normally get worried about Alvarez right about now since he seems to be handed out things too easily already but then again GBP usually does well for the fans rushing their prospects. Not so good for the boxer sometimes but there is nothing i hate more than watching a top prospect facing washed up journeyman or tomato cans for defenses or eliminators. So once Canelo gets that title he needs to defend it against the best which could either make him or break him. More than likely break him as he is much too green. It will be fun to watch though.
Matthew Hatton may not be his brother, but calling him a tomato can,or a journey man is a bit unfair. Hes a good solid B level fighter. Legitimate top 15 type fighter.
You tell him what you want your belt made out of and he will make it. Hell tell him human and he might just do that.....
I'd like Hatton to win just to prove ruin the WBC master plan. He would probably take the Ryan Rhodes fights as a voluntary, too, so there would be some justice there, too - Rhodes should have got this shot ahead of Hatton.
