:patsch so I take you didnt see Vitali breathing heavily??? Hell, going into the corner before the stoppage...Vitali was gasping for air so it works both ways...and on top of that, Vitali was started to get hit with some flush shot.

Well he said it before the first Rahman fight!

The other point is that Vitali took the fight on short notice (2 weeks if memory serves).

I liked Lewis great fighter for the era but he gets overrated wayyyy tooo much!

Vitali was/is a beast, Lewis realised it during the fight and thats why he never gave him a rematch, in fact he advised Sanders in facing Vitali hoping he would beat him so that he wouldn't have to face him. When Sanders lost then Lewis decided to retire, it's pretty clear he chose not to fight him again and I don't blame him.

10 weeks shy of his next birthday, rounds out pretty close to 38.

Rahman had no choice but to give Lewis a rematch as it was written in the contract although im not to sure about the McCall rematch. I personally believe a rematch would have been fair for Vitali as it was a close fight but you must understand how silly it is to celebrate a fighters loss despite the fact he's achieved other great things in his career.

Lennox didn't want to acknowledge that Vitali also spent nearly his whole camp preparing for someone else..

That's why a rematch was in order.

Instead of the back n fourth battle, either one could of devised a gameplan to absolutely dominate the other.

Jesus christ buddy, let it go. An unprepared Vitali gave Lewis hell and only lost because of a cut, arguably from a thumb.

    Goes both ways, idiot.

:patschThey've showed this countless of times...That cut was caused by a punch...Thats a fact you cant despute. Only people that say this are butthurt Vitali fans!

So what he gave him hell...Lewis gave Vitali hell in the closing rounds before the stoppage. As you've stated, it works both ways.

I don't think either man was properly prepared, but if anything Lewis was at a greater disadvantage.. he was inactive for a whole year, showed up nearly 38 years old, and at a career high weight, yet still won, regardless of what fans think of the stoppage.. A rematch may have answered some questions, but how much would it really have proved? By the time a second fight came off, we'd be looking at like a 39ish Lewis.

How come McCall and Rahman could beat a better version of Lewis that the one Vitali fought?

Why does discussion of this fight always have to lead to degrading of both fighters. Fact is both fighters knew they would be fighting each other on short notice, lewis was clearly not in his usual shape and likely past his prime, a hell of a fight ensued between two very good heavyweights. The stoppage was legit, a rematch would of been great to set the record straight and would likely of been entertaining while it lasted. Sucks that we didnt get a rematch but is there really a need to ***** and complain about such a great fight?
