Lennox Lewis states why he didn't give Vlitali Klitschko a rematch.

i'd lean towards him winning but this is a weak excuse.

 

And why was he falling? He was hurt, not seriously but hurt enough that he fell forward into Lewis and held on. Once the ref seperated them he threw 3 weak punches and held on to Lewis again. The ref seperated them again for a 2nd time and Vitali immediately held on again. Vitali instigated 3 clinches within a 20 second period, that is the sign of a hurt fighter.

 

Vitali was scheduled to fight somebody else like Lewis so both fighters had plenty of time to prepare.

 

Promoters couldnt come up with 25 million bucks that lewis wanted and deserved.............. End of story

 

nop it was tyson.. and tyson said it himself: i don't need another beating lol and he refuse the rematch... which I believe he could have done better, like landing more than 5 punches in a round.. tyson's speed was gone since the buster douglas fight he was just a slugger after that

 

Lewis asked his mother, his mother said no. Enough was enough and fair play.

Vitali Klitschko has revealed how Lennox Lewis's mother stopped him getting a rematch with the former world heavyweight champion.

Lewis beat Klitschko in June 2003 in controversial circumstances, retaining his WBC title when the fight was stopped after the sixth round in Los Angeles. The Ukrainian had a deep cut above his left eye but led on the judges' scorecards when officials ruled he could not continue. In the referee's opinion the cut had been caused by a punch, which meant that Lewis was automatically declared the winner.

If it had been ruled that the cut had been caused by a headbutt, Klitschko would have won the title as he was ahead on the scorecards at the time.

Plans for an eagerly anticipated rematch never materialised, with Klitschko yesterday offering an interesting explanation for why that was the case. "Lennox promised me but his mum decided he wasn't going to fight," said the 38-year-old ahead of the Laureus World Sports Awards in Abu Dhabi. "He invited me to London, without managers. He said he wanted to talk just together. I came to the room and his mum is there. We talked for two hours and his mum was looking at me and scanning me.

"After that I went away and he called me a couple of hours later and said, 'Sorry, but no'. I felt it wasn't his decision, his mum decided. I tried to change his decision, but it's difficult.

 

Is Lewis the only "ATG" to have retired because his mum told him to?

 

There is alot of tough men in this world but you will only ever have one mother.

Well as you can see from what I posted this isn't Vitali's view of things. Obviously his fans differ from what Vitali himself is quite sure happened. I personally have no reason to doubt Vitali's view on this. Do you?

 

There's probably a lot more that should have listened to their mum's. Look at what happened with Louis, Ali, Holyfield, Bowe and countless other fighters who fought too long. One ALWAYS has to realize there's life after boxing and they risk their health and even their lives for our entertainment pleasure and that being the case, we should never second guess anyone who says I've had enough.

 

Lewis said he would re-match on the air, and in the press. He had 17 million on the table for him.

Oh- Lewis was not retired after the Vitali fight. He tired to get Kirk Johnson in the ring in Canada, and angles for Roy Jones. But fight Vitali in what would have been a huge heavyweight must see PPV fight? Nope. Lewis balked. Deep down he knew he was lucky the first time. That is the story.

 

I don't think he didn't like his chances I think he just didn't like the prospect of training for such a high caliber opponent at that stage of his career. Lewis probably likes his chances at his best against any man to ever live.

 

Again, that's certainly not the way Vitali himself sees things, but apparently you know more about what happened then he did. He claims he met Lewis and Lewis' request and that they spoke for a couple of hours, with Lewis' mum in the room and after going away for awhile Lewis phoned him and said there wasn't going to be a fight. It's an interesting take on this and as strange as it sounds, it's probably true.
