Lennox Lewis states why he didn't give Vlitali Klitschko a rematch.

Here's what I know. Vitali tired his best to re-match Lewis. Lewis did not want it. That is the story.

 

Fair enough, but when someone doesn't want to learn and believes they already know all there is to know about a subject, they're usually no where near as smart as they think they are.

 

Most mums would rather their sons never set foot inside a ring. The decision to retire should have been Lennox's and his alone.

Lennox having his mum present during a meeting with Vitali is just plain weird. Why did he invite Vitali to meet with no entourage present but then has his mum sit in on their discussions?

I have no idea. But I can guess a little. For one thing Lewis grew up in a single parent environment, where his mum was the one who raised him and looked after him. In all likelihood she hated to see him inside the ring and feared for his safety. I suspect that after trying a number of times to get him to retire while he was healthy and wealthy, he may have promised her that he would retire after the Tyson fight, which to him represented unfinished business..so after that fight he was likely living on borrowed time in terms of what he promised his mum and likely his girlfriend as well, he would do. Undoubtedly, the toughness of the klitshcko fight played a role in what both these women thought about him likely getting hurt if he didn't quite when his skills were clearly in decline.

So I suspect, that he retired partially, out of respect for his mum.

Whether or not that was the major reason I don't know, but certainly Vitali thinks it may have been and he at least doesn't seem to hold it against him.

In a way it's much like the klitschko's refusing to fight each other. Lot's of people including myself would love if they fought each other, but out of respect to their mum, they decided they weren't going to.

Now does that mean one's afraid of the other? or one's afraid of lossing? And think of the money they're passing up by not having that fight,..so does that make them cowards, or does that mean they value their relationship with their mother more than x amount of dollars, regardless of how many zero's are behind that x.

How's that any different than what Lewis may have done?

One of the problems on a site like this, is some posters feel that this blood sport strictly exists for their entertainment and that many posters have no regard whatsoever for anything that happens outside of the ring. You only have to read a bit about what's happening with fighters like Gerald McClellan to realize this isn't a game these fighters are playing, they're potentially making life altering decisions.

Lewis had no problem with rematches, he rematched both the fighters that beat him and won in emphatic fashion.

Has either Klit done that?

Maybe we should get interviews with Ross Purritty and Sanders to see what they have to say on the matter, and also Chris Byrd who made VITLAY quit like a woman.

Another point that has to be made is that since when does a champion have to rematch a challenger? It's not written in the contracts I believe, you just beat the bum and move on, which is what Lewis did.

He'd earnt the right to retire long before he beat the **** out of VITLAY in his late 30's, and all the whining from the Klitschko lovers is just sour ****ing grapes - if VITLAY were that good he'd have only needed one shot to beat Lewis at that time. Draw your own conclusions from that, he just isn't that good.

 

I'm sure Lewis's mum has been in the ring post fight on more than one occasion to share in her son's glory. I don't know what promises, if any, had been made between the two.

If Lewis demolished Vitali and a rematch was still on the table I'm sure his mum would've told Lewis to take the rematch, pocket $20mil and retire. It's precisely because the fight was a tough one that his mum told him to retire. So really, the argument that Lewis was outta shape in the first fight and would destroy Vitali in a rematch is flawed because even he and his mum don't truly believe it.

Lewis didn't immediately retire following the fight and instead talked about a rematch and other possible opponents. Why didn't his mum tell him to retire straight after the grueling fight? It appears she only got so concerned for son's welfare that she asked him to retire after meeting with Vitali in the hotel room.

I think the issue of the Klits fighting one another is different. Their mother's in a no win situation and they know that.

I realise the dangers of the sport. Instead of Lewis talking his smack about what would've happened in the fight had it been allowed to continue or what he would do in a rematch, perhaps he simply should've said the fight has made him realise that he is no longer in his prime and it's the end of his career.

Good to hear Lewis actually had a girlfriend. I'm still a bit worried about the Klits and their semi-naked photo shoots.

Not much to argue about with that. I would have much preferred that Lewis gave Vitali his props and called a spade a spade..and as far as I know..Lewis went on to marry that women and now has a couple of kids.

Of course if his fans want to post his career highlights to counter the argument then they can feel free, I could do with a laugh.

His ONE career highlight is the Lewis fight, which he lost.
