Does Canelo rate around the same way Vargas was at this point in his career? I know Vargas was 20 when he had the battle with Tito. Would 1 fight like that stunt his growth and keep him from superstar status?
vargas had already fought quartey and winky by then and he was more explosive. but its a good thing if canelo doesnt follow that route.
well, vargas was actually 22 when he fought tito but approximately the same point in his career as alvarez (pre-tito) he fought and defeated campas, marquez, wright and quartey. 3 of them are possible HOFs, wright being a lock. alvarez has a solid victory over a former umbrella salesman. that's it
I think Vargas was the better all round fighter. But look at the guy's on his resume. Quartey, Winky, Tito, Oscar. How would Canelo do at this stage in his career against them? -because Vargas was young as hell and jumping into deep water.
Apples and oranges really. Vargas had a very decorated amateur career i.e. 1996 Olympian, making his progression at age 20 very different from that of Alvarez. At age 20, I think Vargas rates higher due to his strong amateur background and overall skill.
Vargas rates higher at this point in his career although I believe Canelo will prove to be the better fighter in years to come.
vargas indeed ,,, i heard he has beef whit juan manuel marquez just because marquez said canelo does not deserve a title shot and he was going to called him out after the fight whit hatton:rofl
oh schnapps...just realized that if canelo wins, he's taking vargas's crown of being the youngest to get a title at 154
Which is a disgrace. He's being HANDED the title on a silver platter against a certified bum, who's UNDERSIZED. Vargas had to actually EARN the title, and MANY thought that Campas was gonna be too much for him. Nando was destroying fighters the level of Matthew Hatton within his first 10 fights. Its a joke how protected freckle face is.
