From the Sheffield Star - 22/2/11

Former world champion Junior Witter must be pondering his future in boxing after falling foul to a points’ decision in Canada.

Witter, back after a long injury break, lost his comeback against Romanian-born Victor Lupo, 32, in Ontario, Canada.

At 36, the South Yorkshire-based veteran may now be considering his options, after failing to secure the vacant WBC International Silver welterweight title. Recently, Witter told The Star that he was pursuing a route back to the very top. He discussed the possibility of a money spinning inter-gym contest with his one-time protege Kell Brook.

Witter, who spars with Brook at the Ingle base, said: “I am comfortable in holding my own with Kell, and it is a good motivator to have competition being ‘the man’ in the gym. He’s really come on; there isn’t much between us now. Everybody is tipping him to be a world champion and he is in prime position to go for the WBO belt.

“He is definitely catching me up and closing in. Would we ever fight? If somebody millions in front of us we’d both do it!”
Witter’s star could now be in decline though. He needs another bout arranged quickly, to repair his image, after three defeats in his last four matches.

One of Witter's problems is that entertainment is one of the big reasons that fans watch fights and follow fighters. Witter had a pretty dull style to watch, and made absolutely no effort to build a fanbase. Two results of that are that he probably made a lot less money than he could have done from his titles, and that there is now very little public appetite for him to carry on fighting. He is done, has been washed up for a while, his ego just won't let him believe it. Trouble is, he probably doesn't have as much money as he thought he would have by the end of his career, and he won't get tv pundit work with his attitude. I think the fact that he was up for fighting Khan at 140lb in April, having said months ago that he could not fight effectively below 147lb, says it all about his reasons for wanting to carry on.

I sold a signed Witter glove on eBay which fetched just over £18, who in their right mind would pay him millions to fight Kell Brook?

Witter has never been very good, he fights in mix between Naseem Hamed, and a spaz who cant decide which stance he wants to fight out of.

Maybe Brook isn't as good as people are thinking if he's only 'catching up' with Witter. He should be dominating him if he's anywhere above European level.

Nothing beats trotting out tired lines like these. Junior went on a 15 fight TKO streak. I take it you missed that. ****ing Monday morning QB's....
