Is Ringside costing us fights??

Sounds like quite an expensive few weeks then..

Miami, L.A., Philadelphia or wherever Hopkns is living.

Would have made more sense to do them all in thr same place or you saying they were all done in Miami?

 

Na, they were done where you say, but domestic US flights are fairly cheap compared to transatlantic. For 3 hours of programming I can't see it costing all that much.

 

I have no idea how much flights cost but i would estimate they took at least a crew of 5? 4 different sets of flights plus hotels plus equipment must be adding up to 5k per person

 

Have to say I've found it rather bland. Don't want to be mean but I've had trouble understanding Nelson on quite a number of occasions and dont think he is a frontline presenter. Dont think the cost would be so much to be affecting fights though, otherwise theres not much point to it

 

Adam Smith's #1 priority should be convincing Sky to up their boxing budget. Given the success of Hatton/Haye on PPV that really shouldn't be that hard. The more boxing they cover, the more household names they create, the more big fights they can put on PPV.

Carl Froch is the perfect example. If Sky had bought the rights to the Super Six and to Fight Camp 360 they could have turned Froch into a PPV star. It would have paid off for them big time.

Within the current context with Sky boxing being underfunded they should clearly prioritise actual fights to Ringside. But they should really be able to afford both. Smith needs to convince Sky to invest more in boxing.

 

Boom you have it. Smith needs to be going with the figures for Haye/Hatton PPVs and go look you need to give me a chunk of the money made on these fights to reinvest and make more of these stars to make you more money. Rather than being opportunistic and milking the boxing public for al its worth when a Haye Harrison comes along. They need a structured plan of building stars and ultimately everyone will be happier they will make more money we will have better fights WIN WIN!

 

Thats what I was thinking, plus food and drink, which wont be in MacDonalds or Burger King it will be top notch places aswell as entertaining whoever else.

Like a few others have stated I'd rather the money was spent on boxing than talking about it.

 

Exactly - even HBO don't have a studio, and only 3 presenters, commentators and pundits in total. Sky have a studio with a presenter and one or two pundits, two ringside analysts and a 3-man commentary team. Too much.

In my opinion Johnny Nelson and Adam Smith should not have any drinks allowance on their business trips. In fact, they should drink their own urine. If it's good enough for Juan Manuel Marquez, the world lightweight champion, it is good enough for them.

I'm think they're doing a good job. I really like the Ringside show and the Haye special was really good. I can guarantee more people would be willing to watch the Haye Ringside then the Alvarez vs Hatton (who are they the public would say).

There's most likely some other issues too.

I think Sky are building up stars quite nicely to be honest, especially Haye. They have turned Haye from an unknown to a PPV Star!!

And as a result the more boxing stars the more interest there is from the public and all boxing fans.

 

Would they? All the casual fans I know would much rather watch Alvarez v Hatton on a Sunday morning than an hour of Haye talking on Ringside any day-especially when it's first showing tends to be up against Premier League darts and Europa League football.

People like to watch actual boxing, rather than people talking about boxing.

What for? 1 fight? that's great expenditure for the future of boxing.

 

A Hopkins show....when was the last time sky showed a Hopkins fight???
