    I agree totally. And that is what Klitschko fans refuse to admit is that Lewis got old. He probably didn't realize it till he got in the ring with Vitali that he was old and could perform at the level he was accustomed to.

    It happens allthe time in boxing. It's just usually when it happens the boxer who get old in the ring loses. Lewis pulled out a win and it infuriates the Klitschko fans. I don't understand why they they want Vitali to fight a shot fighter anyways. Vitali had the all the time and circumstance inthe world to prove he was the best once he became champ.

    He could have rematched Byrd, fought Valuev, Rahman, Ruiz and cleaned out the division but chose not to. Beating up on Danny Williams don't go far in my book.:-(

    Exactly. The risk was not worth the reward (even it it was 20+mil). However,
    he never said that. It was a messy exit from the sport of someone who used to be a great champ: promising and negotiating a rematch, then calling it off, then retiring under a threat of being stripped by WBC. Even if he was KO-ed in the first round of the rematch it would have been less damaging to his legacy than what happened between Vitali's fight and his actual retirement.

    This is the most obvious reason Lewis didn't agree to a rematch. Regardless of what Lewis said, besides money there was no upside to taking this match. If he won, big deal, he already beat him, but if he lost, then what? Rematch him again when he's close to 40 that's not an attractive option.

    That's a new twist. Klitshcko fans are now worried about Lewis' legacy, which clearly puts him in the top 10 ATG heavyweights of all time.

    That's priceless. :lol:

    My only complaint about how Lewis left the sport, is he should have given Vitali props for being an extremely worthy challenger and he should have made is decision far sooner than he did. But he certainly didn't owe Vitali a rematch, and for those who think that Lewis received rematches and never offered them, it's important to note that it's standard contract language for a champ to have a rematch clause in their contact.

    The challenger never has one.

    That's the business of boxing folks.

    I bet anyone else in his shoes, with as much as he has accomplished and with a legacy to protect (if they are smart enough) would do the same. I mean true,he had to reach deep down and find just a little gas left in the tank to get the win, but he won it in true ATG fashion. To me that win will go down as one of his greatest. I think he found out that fight he simply didn't have "it" anymore and decided to bow out on a high note.

    I really don't understand what the issue is her. Reading through this thread you'd think Vitali was jobbed! The fight was stopped because one fighter too much damage. He got his face torn apart and was at risk of a serious injury, so the doctor stopped it. That's boxing. Lewis decided to retire aged 37 - so what.

    Why can't people let it go?

    Lewis certainly did owe Vitali a rematch. Vitali was still a mandatory and WBC ordered the rematch. Lewis options were to rematch or to get stripped of the title. Lewis chose not to go through with the rematch.
