I have a theory that when fighters start growing big beards, it is a sign that they are subconsciously concerned about their 'chins'. Deep down they are trying to protect it with a thick covering of fluff.

And the truth is that it probably does absorb perhaps 1% of the impact.

Speaking of which I've noticed David Haye's beard is looking markedly thicker as he starts talking about a showdown with Wladimir

Expect him to look like Rasputin come fight time.

Am I mad or does anyone think that theory might have some substance? Where is Freud when you need him?

3 or 4 days of stubble is a weapon, and so is a beard. You would not catch me allowing an opponent to climb in the ring with facial hair.

I think it has to do with the wrestling aspect of the game. Sometimes when you are shaving all the time in wrestling and practicing you can get rashes if you have sensitive skin. Some guys in our team would break out bad. ****ing gross.
