He was a battler with solid defense and wasn't afraid to fight anybody. People question his durability during the Foreman fights but the guy fought one of the hardest hitters ever in the heavyweight division and beat strong Bonavena twice who had good hitting power and only got decked twice. Frazier was humble but I do think that he toke Foreman lightly. He still won those but the guy was gutsy and his 75 fight with Ali was one of the gutsiest performances on film. The guy was tough and determined and I wish we had more fighters like him around instead of the mostly tubbies now.

I just finished watching this vid and not too long before that I rewatched his pretty good fight with Ringo that happened in '66.

I love/hate this fight(love both guys giving it their all, hate seeing Frazier get taken out like this) but even in here you see Frazier slipping some of Foreman's wild punches though he still gets caught. He doesn't have the head movement to get out of the way like he used to anymore but Ali does a great breakdown of the fight. Interesting to hear Ali he says the right stuff. Frazier was very gutsy here despite losing by a one-sided fashion. I think more highly of Foreman than Ali does here lol but this was of course before George's comeback but still he was great in the 70's too. Gutsy, gutsy fighter that Frazier was.

Thanks:D. Ironically you're avatar of Frazier and Ali is related to this thread lol. Both were great fighters as was George who I mentioned earlier.

I'm starting to get a bit fed up with all the Frazier jerking off going on here, so I'll just say: worst undisputed HW champ of the post-war era and a whiney ******* that's bitter that he lost both the boxing and popularity contest against Ali.:good

EDIT: Fighter with epic guts and a lot of skill of course. Fantastic left hook and very good defense. But these things need no more selling, they are already sold.

This is usually the defense used by Frazier's apologists in regards to him being knocked down six times and stopped inside of just two rounds. With any other fighter you'd atleast expect to see a few eyebrows raised when a supposedly elite heavyweight visits the canvas that often.Wladimir Klitschko certainly didn't have such defense when Corrie Sanders took care of him in equally devastating fashion.

Fact is,Frazier never showed a chin against a real puncher.Foreman remains the only puncher he ever fought and he wasn't just beaten,he was completely dominated in one of the greatest mismatches in recent history. There were plenty of punchers around during Frazier's era to prove his punch resistance against, but those fights never did seem to come off.

i agree, only 4 dummies would question the chin of frazier. foreman could not ko him for the count. he was down tons of times and he got up. (i would love to see marciano or tyson getting up after of the second knock down)

You're certainly right about Joe's whingeing :good I always admired him as a fighter but have been a bit put off in recent years, because of his bitterness which has been repeated so many bloody times.

Joe stood up well to big punchers.
Now great punchers, a different story.

Anybody ever count the knock-downs he suffered during his pro career.
    vs. Mike Bruce (1)
    vs. Oscar Bonavena I (2)
    vs. George Foreman I (6)
    vs. George Foreman II (2)

He was staggered a few times too.
    vs. Eddie Machen
    vs. Manual Ramos
    vs. Joe Bugner
    vs. Muhammad Ali II

After FOTC Frazier seemed to play it safe, except for rematches with Ali. He miscalculated with Foreman, big time.

    Great videos.
I pretty much agree with everything Frazier and Ali say in those two videos.
Great common sense and down-to-earthness from Frazier, and great analysis of the fight from Ali.

Worst undisputed champ since the 1940s ? Are you serious ?

I don't think he's particularly whiney or bitter, as old fighters go. Certainly not "whiney". I don't think he's ever appealed for pity. His feelings towards Ali get over-reported, I think.
He doesn't like the guy, he holds a grudge.
But it's the sportswriters and media, and folks like us who write all the pages of copy on that issue and build it up as if it defines who Frazier is since he retired.

Frazier always seems pretty cheerful and affable as ever in public. Not some bitter twisted whiney ******* at all.

Maybe he started to hear the whispers about him fighting softies, and his pride took over.
