Ok then mate, tell me how AA was so much better. Lacy was 21-0 with 17 KO's going into that fight and was a natural super middle. AA was in reality 30-2 going into the Froch fight because his first win over a prime Miranda was a total robbery and don't bother bringing up Lacy's fight with Omar Sheika because AA just got past Kofi Jantuah, was having life and death with Elvin Ayala until the last round and had a he really tough time with Lajuan Simon. He was also coming off a loss going into the Froch fight. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=31593&cat=boxer http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=208432&cat=boxer
Ok. This is your definition of how things really are? resorting to hang out with Khan... Resorting to...:tired Get out ****. Calzaghe and Hopkins are/were both fantastic fighters.
I'm a fan of both - follow them both on twitter - but Joe won the fight. Both have phenomenal resumes - beating a host of World Champions - the standard of which is debateable and subjective. What is a fact (all be it based on the subjective opinion of 3 experienced judges) was that Joe beat Bernie. That is the only fact. So Joe was the better man the day they fought. Any list is always subjective and down to the eye of the creator. I'm sure if you took a poll of serious boxing writers, they would probably have them pretty much equal in the ATG stakes - BHOP for the calibre of people he beat and Joe for never being beaten and having beaten Bernie. Lets face it at his best weight nobody could even come close to beating Calzaghe - the only close decision he had in his whole career was at the first time he went up to LHW. As for him slapping - well he had enough Ko's on his record to show he had some power and the slapping made a hell of a ****ing mess on Jeff Lacy and Roy Jones' faces.
I dont hate Hopkins at all, but just focus on facts. Of course no bias when Calzaghe - - Outlanded Hopkins - Landed more on Hopkins than anyone ever - Denied Hopkins his usual strong finish - Scored the single highest score against Hopkins ever - Had 2 judges agree on 9 of the rounds to show Calzaghes dominance - If Hopkins thought he was winning he wouldnt have been looking to get points deducted off of Calzaghe - Had Hopkins hanging on trying to buy time Other points - Beat Hopkins sandwiched between Hopkins best victories of Tarver, Wright and Pavlik - Beat Hopkins at a new weight - Beat Hopkins in America with 3 American judges and Cortez as ref, who let Hopkins hold illegally and use the head illegally Facts. Calzaghe didnt beat Hopkins on workrate, Calzaghe beat Hopkins using ring generalship, and because Calzaghe was able to land his left more than Hopkins could land his right. The real problem is that many people who picked for Hopkins (not all) do so due to racism. Lets remember that Hopkins hasnt been able to win 7 world title fights and 8 fights in total, but the one that really bothers the Hopkins supporters is Hopkins loss to Calzaghe and that Calzaghe scored the single highest score against Hopkins ever. It bugs those Hopkins fans
Calzaghe beat (You know I dont think he really beat) Hopkins not by ring generalship but by workrate. When Hopkins faked that low blow in the late part of the fight, after a prolonged rest given to him by Cortez, he schooled Calzaghe just like he was schooling him in the opening rounds. I think that indicates clearly Hopkins was gassed and he desperately needed to hustle a resting period in order to get his legs and lungs back. Calzaghe workrate combined with his pitty patter punches are enough to outwork majority of boxers especially a 42 year old. Hopkins circling right and landing the straight right followed by left hook is what you call ring general ship. That kind of ring generalship had Calzaghe on the floor, and blood on the bridge of the nose. Calzaghe squaring up mid range and throwing slaps aint exactly ring generalship now is it.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iny-JzuL1s0[/ame] 3:30 Calzaghe has homo fantasies in the ring trying to dry hump. Hopkins takes a break and then schools him the rest of the round. Jim Lampley at 6:30 "Suddenly the fight looks like it did in round 1" Max Kellermen at 7:25 "Looks like Hopkins needed a breather and he took it and he seems like he is better for it" Lamply replies "absolutley seems a bit rejuvinated" Max Kellermen at 9:20 "Calzaghe younger faster higher volume of punches would outwork bernard and win the decision and thats what it looks like is happening" There is no evidence to suggest Calzaghe won by ring generalship, Calzaghe a mid range slugger had Hopkins gassed.
Calzaghe made Hopkins his *****... It was fun to watch... Never seen Hopkins in deep water like that ever before...
It was Calzaghes ring generalship moving Hopkins round the ring that tired Hopkins. Hopkins is known for his strong finish as in evidence even now against Pascal, yet due to Calzaghes ring generalship took that strong area of Hopkins away. You try and make something out of Calzaghe being put down and having a cut, but the cut was from the first punch Hopkins landed which is also the cut which put Calzaghe down. Lets not make that into something it isnt, Calzaghe wasnt hurt or in trouble, got up and went forward. If you look at the De La Hoya - Maywheather fight, Maywheather was much more marked up than Oscar, but we know the result. Calzaghe did flap and slap at times no doubt but did also land more solid blows than Hopkins more often and maneuver Hopkins at will. Hopkins didnt school Calzaghe after faking low blows. Hopkins landed only one clean shot and less than Calzaghe who pressed the round and looked the stronger overall. 2 judges scored that round to Calzaghe
If if wasn't for the fact I just jacked a load over Arcane's' avatar I'd consider this thread a waste of my time.
m8 , u must remember , a lot of Calzaghe 's punches were not v. strong , bernard rolled w/, a lot of shots , and outdid calzaghe in dirty boxing . also , he did land better bodyshots , u must consider these points aswell.
Regarding the result, I know your opinion and you know my opinion. I just think Calzaghe's main asset which seperated him from the class below was his workrate + Speed. And this is what gave Hopkins difficulty, aswell as Kessler, Lacy, Reid..... Hopkins was able to slow down Taylor, Pascal.... and hence finish strong, but wasnt able to do it against Calzaghe whose workrate is amongst the best. In regards to this fight, you heard this before: Hopkins landed the cleaner crisper shots, but Calzaghe landed more. This to me means, Hopkins outboxed Calzaghe, while Calzaghe outworked Hopkins. Ring generalship was a category which Hopkins beat Calzaghe in, with Hopkins gassing, Calzaghe superior workrate shifted the fight onto his side. But I dont think Calzaghe was that good of a boxer to outbox BHop. The problem IMO with Hopkins, especially at his age is that he would have to be really well conditioned to deal with high workrate fighters. I also believe, along with Steve Bunce, Hopkins didnt take Calzaghe seriously and for a 50+ fight pro veteran like BHop to be walking to the wrong corner 4 times that night is going to be either:- - Calzaghe was that demeaning mentally that he had Hopkins confused - Hopkins realised Calzaghe is better than he expected - Hopkins didnt take this fight 100% serious. Regardless, the fight is done and dusted, Calzaghe is done and dusted. Hopkins is almost done and dusted, I am sure every Calzaghe fan has respect for what Hopkins has done, and me as a BHop fan, and a harsh hater of Calzaghe will not deny Calzaghe was a respectable fighter, but not on the level of Hopkins.
