Yeah, it ends with Ali, sorrounded by crowds of people, feeling Joe eyeing him up as he was a rival gunslinger. There and then he understands they will never be friends.

That's of course Ali's take on it, but I also believe that Joe felt an intense rivalry very early on and that it still lingers today.

I like the part where Ali (in the car) asks Joe if he's ever been in a street fight. Joe says "well, there was this once when a guy felt like I cut him off. He called me a ******, so I called him white trash. He didn't like that one bit and followed me around until I pulled over on a side street and went into a back alley with him... It remind me of my fight with Dave Zyglowic (which ended with a first round KO)."

There is a huge difference between being apart of a someone's legacy and someone actually being your entire legacy. There isn't one single fighter, one single bout, one single event that completely defines Ali's legacy. The two shock upset wins over Liston and Foreman were more important to his legacy than Frazier ever was.

You can create threads and have a discussion about Ali without ever having to refer to Joe Frazier.Do you honestly believe the same is possible in regards to Joe Frazier? I sure as hell don't.

No fighter has ever benefited more off of the success and accomplishments of another like Frazier has done with Ali.

Been a while from ive read it to tell the truth. It was actually the first proper boxing book i ever read. From my recollection didnt Ali ask Joe did he mind taping their conversation? I remember thinking at the time that they seemed to get on like pals do, having a laugh and a joke. My take on the end of it mildly differs from yours insofar as i got the impression that Ali was trying to give Joe a bit of kudos by pointing him out and telling people who he (joe) was, but that their reaction kinda resigned Joe to the fact he would never be as popular with the average joe 6 pack, most of whom wouldnt know any kind of boxer nevermind the world champ. And before anyone jumps on my case here and misconstrues anything, i am not saying anything harsh about Joe, its just my take on that particular incident.

just as an aside. Who the **** in their right minds, follows Joe Frazier about in the car???? One sorry boy!
