Not even close. Floyd Patterson, Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard were all very likable guys who never spoke out against the U.S. military or government. Audiences loved them because they were humble, had a crowd-pleasing style and they never spoke arrogantly or trash-talked their opponents. Marciano also had those attributes, but he wasn't marketed well so unfortunately he never achieved the fame and money of the three I mentioned above.

^ the interviews were all controversial but his practical actions spoke much more!His charity work/humanitarian stuff around the globe really took affect!
I wouldn't have quite as much love for him as a person if he hadn't stood up and spoken out on the Vietnam issue. That showed immense courage and demonstrated Ali was capable of acting selflessly. It also won Ali the enduring love and respect of the rest of the world, particuarly oppressed peoples. Without having taken that stand, his personal defects and pride would be a larger part of his legacy. But ultimately the guy talked the talked and walked the walk and that's a rare thing. If arrogance is well-earned and justified, then I think it should be forgiven.

Another thing that says courage that maybe doesn't occur to a person right away is the fact that he talked so much trash and never seemed to hold back. Because it would go through your head that maybe you shouldn't talk so much because a) you're putting pressure on yourself to perform in a big way given the amount of junk you talked, and b) you might think "maybe I should pull back a little because if I lose everyone will remember I said x,y,z". He always committed 100% without trying to hedge his bets.
Watching Ali is like watching a real life movie, only in this movie the guy thats talking tough is the good guy.
