As short and spot on as a true statement on a fight can be, it's exactly what happened. Hopkins got outfoxed and outboxed and the championship rounds - BHop's home territory - were taken by Calzaghe.

Calzaghe didnt beat Hopkins on workrate, Calzaghe beat Hopkins using ring generalship, and because Calzaghe was able to land his left more than Hopkins could land his right.

 

This is true. Calzaghe gets very little plaudits for his performance, even though he came back from a knockdown and took over down the stretch. Never mind that Hopkins went on to give one masterful performance against Pavlik, which would suggest Joe had a lot to do with Hopkins looking like **** and only being able to compete with excessive holding and by fighting a spoiling type of fight.

Calzaghe's stamina was unbelievable and complete confidence in his own ability. I think Calzaghe won the main battle in the build to the fight, Hopkins was trying his usual ploys to get into Calzaghe's head, alas Joe was perhaps the one fighter that Hopkins couldn't psychology mess with.

Calzaghes workrate makes him a difficult opponent for any fighter, if he can't outbox you he will simply go into overdrive and overwhelm you with flurry after flurry. Even the super slick and mobile Hopkins couldn't even keep him off him for long enough to dominate down the stretch like he usually does. Calzaghe was able to do this due to his excellent footwork,mobility and agility.

This is one of the main reasons why I think he would have always been a handful for even prime Hopkins and even Roy Jones Jr.

Calzaghe's legacy may not be as great as it should as his 2 most notable wins came against faded or shot fighters but head to head he is much more formidable than his resume.

Yeah, that's why Pavlik, Taylor, Wright, Tarver and Pascal were able to mess Hopkins up as the fight went on, right? They all made Hopkins hold and act like an Oscar award winning actor, right?

RIGHT?

 

I don't think Hopkins won the fight at all, I just thought it was an absolutely **** fight and couldn't care less about the decision.
