His stamina was better. He was more aggressive and more fan friendly to watch. During the last few fights of his reign he slowed down and signs of his decline are still relevant today though he keeps himself in great shape.

It was clear that he wasn't prime yet he still had a close fight with the still energetic Calzaghe. It's hard to label Calzaghe's prime years but he did have two of his most significant wins/performances out of his prime in Kessler & Lacy.

The fact remains that he was past-prime while he beat Pavlik yet toke him to school. Hopkins was still sharp in his late 20's but his aggression may have played into Pavlik's hands had they fought prime vs prime. I still see Hopkins making Pavlik wish he never touched a pair of boxing gloves.

 

Pascal has done his best work at lightheavyweight. He fought Froch at 168, not his best weight. Even then he gave a close war to Froch who clearly won. Pascal wasn't a "victim" by any means he held his own but Froch was/is the clearly superior fighter not just on that night but overall.

Right. So all those younger guys couldn't out-stamina Joe C. If Calzaghe didn't have his skills along with his stamina, he wouldn't have out-foxed Hopkins up. He made Hopkins look bad, worse than anyone he ever fought. He out-cheated Hopkins.

He didn't fade against much younger opponents. Guys like Pavlik and Taylor had comparable workrates where they just went non-stop on other guys.

But Calzaghe was never deterred by Hopkins' punching. The fact that he was never truly affected by Hop's punching while Calzaghe's punching made Hopkins crawl on the ground and act and complain to the ref about illegal fouls when he's the guy who normally fouls tells you something.

Calzaghe fought Hopkins' fight and basically whupped him. Hops wasn't effective anymore with his punching, clean as they are, because he was just getting outworked and outsmarted. Even Roach kept saying for Hops to start throwing more. He couldn't. Even Hopkins said in a british interview before the RJJ fight (he picked RJJ to win) that he had more trouble against Calz over RJJ because of Calzaghe's volume punching.

Hopkins was never a volume puncher and never really fought one the level of Calzaghe.

Absolutely dreadful post. If you don't understand that stamina was one of Calzaghe's foremost assets and that he had poor technical ability, then there's not much else to say, other than you should watch a bit more boxing. :good
