He can wait as much as he wants. He is simply not that good. He is slow, footwork nowhere to be seen (at least in this fight), chest thumping, bravado stuff... no good. Plus, he is 31.

100% with this, people forget that despainge was never that good in the amateurs to begin with everytime he went to a world tournament he would always lose to the best and for one of the Olympics he didnt even make the national team and lets be honest the guy lost to an 18 year old kid on his last national tournament a division that is one of the weakest in cuba, on top of that doing monerias in the ring just like he did in his last fight was a a complete embarrassment

Despaignes future seems to be a steppingstone to undefeated talents who want to get into top 15 ranking. No way he can beat the 5-6 best in the 175 pound-division.

I agree with you 100%. I was never into Despaigne even though that I was backing him up 100%. I think that he defected way too late and he was never that good in Cuba to begin with. He may have been on the Cuban Team but that doesn't mean that he was great at the International Level.

Now, Syllakh is nothing spectacular himself. He is very tall and can definitely box and move but he had a sitting duck last night. We need more younger Cubans to defect as the younger they defect the better chances they have at adapting well at the pro level. It's not easy for someone like Despaigne to adapt at almost 30 years old, ( even the master Rigondeaux is having some difficulties at this because of defecting late ), and Despaigne was nowhere near Rigo's level.

I wish Yordanis the best but this was a huge setback for him. He needs to develop speed, better footwork, throw more combos and not just that left hook and jab, and he needs to learn to attack more the body. I also think that Despaigne needed more fights to fight a fighter like Ismayl and he also was way too confident. :-(
