Patterson would positively SHINE vs Byrd...Floyd would be the guy with the superior hand speed and combinations, and would stop Chris in 5 or 6. He would bust up Byrd prety bad before geting a clean ko or a decisive tko.
Morrison would end up like Ingo did in the 2nd and 3rd fights with Floyd...a clean ko for Floyd...and I agree tha he may have had Floyd down for a flash..then it would be all Patterson for a 4th or 5th round ko.
I think he would have been troubled at times by the bigger, resourceful Witherspoon, and he would have been respectful of Spoon's power, but i think he would have troubled Tim as well with his fast as hell hands and overall quickness..and the fight would have gone to the limit with Floyd either losing by a hair or capturing as close nod. I'm not even sure there would have been a knockdown, as Tim wasn't really that explosive with the power he had.
i must admit the word explosive would not spring to mind about witherspoons power but he had good power in his right hand
Patterson was down more times than any other HW Champ in History (20 times). In some of the fights he was down in... he got up and eventually stopped his opponent (vs. Rademacher, Harris, and Johansson (their 3rd fight). He was down vs. Quarry in their first fight, he also dropped Quarry... they fought to a draw. In their rematch Patterson was down and lost a decision. He was down vs. Bonavena but won by decision. He was stopped by Ali twice but was never down in these fights. He was stopped by Liston twice, both times in the 1st round. He was down 5 times in these fights. He was stopped by Johannson once in 3 fights. He was down 9 times in these fights. He stopped Johansson twice and dropped him 2 times. I don't see Byrd knocking him down to be totally honest. Speed? They both had it plus Byrd had it from a southpaw stance. Chin? Byrd lost a decision to W. Klitschko once and was stopped by him once (7th round). He stopped V. Klitschko in 9 rounds (shoulder injury). He won decisions vs. Tua, Holyfield, McCline, and Williamson among others. He drew with Golota. He was stopped in 5 by Ibeabuchi (who was rock solid at 6'3" and 245Lbs). Patterson took solid shots from Durelle x2, Moore, Machen, Chuvalo, Bonavena, and Quarry x2 without getting stopped. Byrd gets the nod here. Size? Same height, Byrd would have 3" in reach. Byrd carried 210Lbs. pretty well. Patterson's best HW weight was about 190-195Lbs. Power? Patterson Boxing skill? Both were very good boxers but Byrd was very hard to hit and harder to figure out. Who wins? I think it's a close decision, maybe even split? I'll go with Byrd in an upset!
Don't listen to this guy, Mr Butt... Floyd Patterson, exactly like Larry Holmes... except he gets KO'd in like every other fight. Trust me on this.
Definitely a competitive fight. I just think Patterson is flat out better, and over 15 proves this clearly, assuming he doesn't catch Byrd clean and stop him, which also seems very possible.
I could see Patterson winning as well but why do so many people think he would stop Byrd with one shot?
patterson by decision. byrd wasn't even really "out" vs. ibeabuchi. sure the bolo shot dropped him, but, when ibeabuchi got the tko byrd wasn't even hurt, he was mouthing to the referee and still avoiding ike's shots for the most part. byrd would be smart enough to know of floyd's speed & power, but, byrd doesn't have the power to really trouble patterson.
