He called the main event of Saturdays HBO telecast "exciting and interesting" I was not excited or interested. A Mosquito could do more damage to Canelo than Matt Hatton could. All it was was watching the youngster push around a ridiculously overmatched guy who not only has no business ever fighting on HBO but no business at the weight he was fighting at! Not only is Hatton strictly a European level talent, he is not even European A! He is a B Level Euro fighter which translates across the pond to A BUM!!!! Canelo is so boyish and his defense is really laugh worthy. His Jalisco heavy bag sessions they wanted to show us so much of are not going to get him there.

The fight was boring and uneventful. Hatton is a sturdy opponent but offensively he posed no threat to Canelo. Canelo tried to get Hatton out of there but every time he was on the verge, Hatton gave his best impression of an octopus.

Hatton also gave several Oscar winning performances to buy himself time when he got hurt. But as far as Canelo having terrible defense. That is LUDICROUS!

He isn't Cory Spinks or Whitaker, but why would he be? He doesn't fight anything like them, doesn't spend all that time on his back foot. Part of Canelo's defense is his offense.

Against Baldomir I saw him use his legs to keep Baldomir out at a range he couldn't hit Canelo at. I don't think he had any respect for Hatton on any level. And felt he could take whatever chances he wanted to.

But even with that said, Hatton didn't hit Canelo a lot nor did he ever come close to hurting him, and he didn't even mark him up.

Canelo is ready to step it up IMO. I think you a disservice to a fighter when you keep their competition too low. What usually happens is the fighter picks up bad habits because he can get away with them against poor competition.

And no matter how hard you train you needed to be tested in real fights. In my eyes it is time to fight. He needs to get in with a Bundrage about now, and he needs to be sparring with top guys.

Not no name mexican journeyman. He needs to be sparring the whos who of boxing even if they are in higher divisions. He is a good size dude and should be able to spar with people all the way up to Super middle.

Hatton posed no risk to Alvarez, but he was game and it was a good action fight. Lighten up man.
