It is now March 8th (GMT)

Therefore it is 40 years to the day of in my opinion the greatest moment in sports history. The Fight Of The Century.

Here's a great documentary on the fight.

as soon as i think of this bout i think of joe frazier
leaping off his feet and landing that left hook on
ali in the 15th. i think this fight was the best of
    the trilogy.

A tremendous punch and the way Ali got up so quickly was equally as impressive.

I remember it like it was yesterday - there's never been a fight since that has captured the imagination of the general public like it.

One wonders how the result might have varied if they'd met earlier on without Ali's 'break' in between.

One rollercoaster ride of a battle. Joe's body punching and left hook counters were fierce..

I was three months short of my sixteenth birthday, and I can recall it like it was yesterday. A great....great fight. Being an Ali fan,I was upset at the outcome,of course. There's no denying Frazier his due though. He wandered through the bowels of hell to beat Ali that night. They would meet again.....and again, but that's another story.

I agree. Skillwise it was by far the best of the 3. Manila, though a great fight, was more of a grueller

A great fight between two undefeated champions with a backdrop of politics mixed in. Everyone talks about the 15th round where Frazier's hook floored Ali, but for my money they 11th round was the key round of the fight. In the 11th round Frazier badly punishes Ali, and if not for the ropes, Ali may go down.
