Montiel didn't enter a tourney either.... not comparing both as montiel has better accomplishments but just saying that the title holder of a weight doesn't always join a tourney to get their time wasted when they could be fighting others.

He still has many options, the tourney does not include the whole top 10.

Alvarez says he wants the top guys, we'll see if he can convince De La Hoya to give him one. I doubt it. At the very least, if the tourny goes ahead, he should be fighting k9 or the WBA fake champ Trout as was their plan before Hatton.

No need for protection, I believe Canelo will be a unified champ by the end of this year and every poster whining about Alvarez being protected will have to sadly retire from the issue.

I thought Canelo was legit and bought into the hype; but, I saw the light after the N'dou fight. The only way Canelo survives iis if in less than year his defense improves exponentially...

Watch and see who he fights in his next couple of outings, then tell me they're not still treating him like a prospect. They got him that belt, but they're not going to matchmake like he's a legit champion. Count on it. That belt is a total fraud.

The first thing that crossed my mind when I read about Suliman's tournament was he's trying to protect his cash cow. Keep the top contenders facing each other, in what would take 1-2 years to complete, while Alvarez gets to defend his title against some of the lesser contenders. If true its stinks but I'm not overly bothered by it. First, Alvarez isn't ready for someone like Williams or Angulo yet and by the time he met one of them he would be and we'd get a great fight. Second, there are some good potential matches to be made in that tournament that I'd like to see. Third, the whole tournament won't come off so its a mute point anyways.

I wouldnt exactly say that just yet, Williams has to win those fights and on top of that win in the end, remember he is just now comming off of one of the most brutal knock outs I have ever witnessed in my life time

I'm not disappointed of his performance from his last fight, he's still basically a prospect, what I'm disappointed about is him fighting for a belt he is not yet ready for. Alvarez and his team should of refused if they were smart enough, but now even they are becoming big headed and buying into their own hype. I agree, talented, no doubt, elite, no way. Williams, Angulo, Kirkland, and Cintron all would of finished Hatton within 5-6 rounds.

You just watch smarass. Alvarez set his seights on Trout even before the WBC gifted him the belt, if he just keeps the schedule and Trout doesn't run away, Canelo will be a unified champion by the end of the year, or will lose trying, but my money is on Alvarez.
