David Haye's routine

    Weights will obviously cut into training time, but its a sacrifice worth making IMO

    You (and lots of other people) have really managed to convince yourself that lifting weights has something to do with boxing. It's unrelated and thats proven because many top athletes in fighting sports don't touch weights.

    As I'm sure your aware: Medium-heavy weight lifting will create big tears in your muscles and depending on how much effort, it will take 3-7 days to fully recover. Now use those same torn muscles for intensive boxing training 5 times per week. It doesn't work.

    Also, your previous post you stated you get used to being sore. Thats not true, especially if your increasing the weight which this routine clear states.. adding 2.5kg per week or longer negatives.

    Where are you pulling this 3-7 days recovery from? Why comment if you don't know what you're talking about.

    Nobody said weights have anything at all to do with boxing.

    This proves lifting weights won't make you stronger and more powerful? Really? How?

    Um, get a clue and try again.

    I very rearely get sore but I still get stronger and bigger. Am I a freak of nature or what?

    It does work, and its nowhere near as crucial as you think to have "fresh muscles", you will be fine, I've done it before successfully. It's no more fatiguing than hitting a bag for 10 rounds for example. You will be training with fatigued muscles most of the time anyway, that's the way it goes when in full time training. You will be fatigued, but your body will get used to it and eventually NEED activity to remain primed and ready. Have you seen any boxer take a full week off from any activity before a fight? And there is no place for longer negatives in a strength training program. Have you tried it before? 3-7 days is an impossibly long number for days to recover, you have serious issues if it takes you that long to recover from a single strength training session. As I said, the first few weeks will be harder maybe, but after that you will be good to go with both working in harmony. You won't have "torn muscles" any more than if you had a good sprinting session, or hit 100 pushups, but if you do some barbell squats or some overhead press you need three times the amount of time to recover? No.

    I never said you need to do weights to box successfully, far from it, I am just saying there are some benefits that are not apparent to many people. I'm sure more pros train with weights than the public thinks, but maybe not so! If nothing else they are probably the best injury prevention method known to sports today.

    I believe him too when it comes to boxing training. Weight training he's obviously clueless. Weights have nothing to do with boxing. Thing is, nobody on this forum has ever claimed weights have a thing to do with boxing. So what's your point?

    We can make this simple. Can a boxer perform better with more strength, speed and power? Yes, the same as any other athlete. Can you increase strength, speed and power using weights? Yes. So explain why using weights is wrong, it seems like an ideal way to train for these attributes.
     
  9. although i agree with what your saying in weights will increase strength speed etc , the reason most people say weights are no good for boxing is because they feel it affects there technique

    The other guy did claim it helps your boxing and even that he likes to lay out the facts for people living in the "dark ages":

    "Its crazy how many people will really argue it to the bitter end that "NO! WEIGHTS ARE BAD!" which is why I keep coming back to this sort of threads and try and lay the facts"

    "extra strength and scope to increase their power are helpful to anyone at any point in the ring"

    You don't think a stronger, faster more powerful boxer is a better boxer? Weights can help you build all of those attributes. Nobody is claiming weights increases BOXING SKILL like you're trying to say. Put it this way - running doesn't improve boxing skill, it builds your cardio which in turn helps your boxing ability. Weights can help build strength in the exact same way. Are you going to dispute that?

    - Being stronger and lifting those weights has nothing to do with boxing. You will find this out very quickly when your sparring with someone whos good.

    Lets do small logical steps. Is a faster, stronger more powerful boxer a better boxer? Yes or no?

    I've done plenty of sparring, thanks, even after using those evil weights.
