Actually, all things considered, the Canelo/Chavez Sr. comparison is not a bad comparison at this stage in Alvarez's career. Doubt Alvarez goes on to accomplish anything close to what Chavez did though!
I can tell you this, the tickets sold for that fight, were far more than the tickets sold for Mayweather Jr vs Castillo 1 and that alone speaks volumes the kid though he is still a baby in the sport, he can put asses in the seats and thats part of the game...
People are getting carried away with him looking white is why he's popular. The reason he's popular is that Boxing was only on cable for 15 years in Mexico and when it finally came back to network Canelo was the guy the networks really pushed. They also tried pushing Chavez jr but the kid was such a lazy **** that everyone fell off the bandwagon. Sure he hasn't accomplished much to justify his popularity but the networks didn't just push his fights they made him a mainstream personality. Also he's exciting, he always goes for the kill, he can look like brad pitt but if he's a boring **** nobody would give a ****.
I believe it. The kid is already selling out 10k arenas in Mexico years ago. I know people that rented the PBF-Mosley fight just to watch Canelo. If this kid does have the goods in the long run i can see him breaking the PPV record. He just needs to learn English and find a mouthy American to fight.
Alvarez reminds me of the white Mexican in the beginning of American Me and Blood In Blood Out. "I may be white on the outside, but I'm brown on the inside." Orale Vato!
It's simple, he's young and he's dominating his opposition. Yeah, his opposition is weak but he's 20 years old... this is the exact same opposition every other 20 year old prospect is facing. Hell, it's probably tougher opposition than prospects at his age are facing. That's the difference between him and Chavez Jr. Canelo is pummeling everyone that's in his path, while Chavez barely squeaks by in mediocre fights with some favorable judging along the way. The only thing keeping Chavez relevant is his pops' legacy. Yeah his title fight was a gift from Sulaiman but people were gonna watch regardless. The belt was thrown in at the last minute, everyone realizes it was a gift but they don't care because 1. belts are meaningless now-a-days (except to *******s) and 2. they were gonna watch him anyway
