It doesn't mean abs are genetic. It means body fat distribution is genetic for the most part which I do believe. If you don't workout at all and you have 10-12% bodyfat, it may all be distributed in the stomach because physical activity and a good diet will distribute it more evenly throughout the body. SO in that case, it is all your fault. But lets assume everyone is working out.

I have friends who have strong cores but they still have a small layer of fat covering their abs even at a low BF. Once I get down to about 12% my abs come in really nicely and I think it's because I hold my weight better. More of my fat will be distributed in the legs and back.

Mostly diet, genetics a close second.
Most guys can get ripped with a strict bodybuilding style diet, or very intense cardio training that inevitably reduces bodyfat combined with an ok diet.

As far as being able to get an 8-pack, then yes it's genetic

me? Nope, not this time. I want to see pics of the other people who claim to look like Roy Jones, though. Hmmm.

Yeah, I think fat distribution is pretty genetic. I think I look much softer in the stomach at about 7-8% body fat, which is high for me, I think it all goes there and in my shoulders and face. To get really defined looking I need to be down near 5%.

You're not 5% body fat, to sustain that day to day is near enough impossible. Watch the documentary "I Want to Look Like That Guy" Really shows the difficulties, physically and psychologically of getting low body fat for a body building competition. The guy breaks down in tears regularly at around 7% body fat because of the stress and his body fighting back against what he's doing.

5% body fat is definitely sustainable. I'm around 1-2% at the moment.

I agree. No way does someone maintain 5% year round. It would also kill performance too.

Seriously, are you joking or are you just outright lying? I can't tell, you've said some very stupid things before and actually meant it so...

3% is essential to life. If you drop to 3% you'd slip into a coma. So yeah...

Mate if you were 1-2% bf, firstly, you'd be dead, secondly you'd be more than 'fairly cut'. You'd look ridiculous, actually.
