ooo so close thought it was 6. ill edit but only if previous poster gets rid of that Vitali was only ATG he beat post
That fight was easily the best performance of Bruno's career too. A really underrated fight that one.
My top ten (IIRC) 1. Ali 2. Louis 3. Lewis 4. Foreman 5. Holmes 6. Holyfield 7. Tyson 8. Frazier 9. Marciano 10. Tunney Ezzard Charles at no.11. I find Johnson, Dempsey, Langford and Liston all hard to evaluate, they would be the next four though, most probably. Jersey Joe Walcott, James J Jeffries and Floyd Patterson would be inside the top 20 as well.
A little twist to the arguement... Of all the opponents Lennox beat which of them, at the time they fought, would have gone on to become a threat to the klitschko brothers if they were around now?
Why should I? I said he is the only ATG Lewis has beat that was in his prime, which is true. I have nothing against Lewis I have him in there with Louis, Ali and Foreman in my top 4, i couldn't tell you what order though.
Ruddock was in 92, Vitali in 03...great longevity. Lee...Golota with his head screwed on could trouble the Klits. What about Holyfield? Briggs would have really took the fight to Wlad, Mercer would have given 'em a lot of trouble.
Holyfield amongst a very good list of World champions, big punchers and beat everyone there was to beat. More to the point Vitali isnt an ATG
Seems I keep proving people wrong ;-) I have already proven that I'm not a Floyd 'hater', and now I've proven I don't favour fighters just because they are filmed in black and White celluloid :good
My favourite one was when he got revenge over Rahman, great performance when many had thought he was finished, wrote him off and people even said he was scared of Rahman because he didnt get involved in the trash talking. I loved that, Lewis stayed quiet (tv studio "brawl" apart) and shut Rahman up with one of the best shots ive ever seen. Bang, get out Rock. I know hes not a great fighter by any means but the win over Botha stood out for me as well. Lewis just had this air of class around him in that fight, every inch of him just looked like it was saying IM THE MAN, he looked great against a very average opponent, it just stood out for me watching it.
Holmes, Lennox and George are all interchangable IMO. I have my reasons for ranking Holmes the lowest even though, and people forget, he also ran the gauntlet in the early 90s. Badly rocked by a Ray Mercer jab (!) he came back and outmanouvered the younger, deadlier man. Along with Ali, the greatest powers of recovery of all time at HW. But Foremans win over Moorer, considering his age, his inactivity (hadn't fought since being completely outboxed by Morrison, of all people, over a year before) it was amazing to see an iron chin on an old body, displaying an old school trick to get his shots off. Foreman was seriously intelligent. And whilst post-Ali he faltered a bit, the decimation of an unbeaten Frazier ranks high on ATG HW wins IMO. Lyle and Norton are two other top contenders from that era. Holmes however fought in a very good era, but struggled to 'get up' for fights. Weaver and Witherspoon are two of the main offenders IMO. Still, Holmes is solid, supremely skilled, tough as **** and spanned a few eras; most days I have him at no.4 (and I used to have him at three) he of course looked sublime in destroying Cooney, a very big HW who punched hard. He was relatively untested, a shot Norton being about the best thing he'd done IIRC, but Holmes was on another level, frustrated him and beat him up. I think Foreman gets underrated IMO. His jab is underrated. The force he generated was barbaric, and unseen. He just swang his arms and broke people up. He was tough as old boots, and was actually more stable as he got older (and bigger) An ATG puncher, has an ATG won, and longevity. Foreman is right up there for me, personally :good
Still not an ATG and not even top 50, if Solis shows up in shape (highly unlikely as that may be) he'll give Vitali trouble. That said he hasnt set the world alight in his pro career and Adamek as tough as he is is still a blown up light heavy. Lennox best wins are against good-great fighters, Vitali's are against average ones You want ATG's on your win list how many Vital got? Note ive even let you off the prime bit
