Amir Khan Vs Paul McCloskey Build-Up Thread!

What McCloskey hasnt got very good Knockout power, lucky punch.?

I tell you this first hand Paul McCloskey has definately earned a shot at a world title, has come up the hardway, Has definately got good boxing skills, throws very good sharp counters with good knockout power, the sort of punch that could trouble Amir Khan.
It seems you really dont know alot about Paul McCloskey i have followed him from the start and seen him fight several times. Have you seen him fight and i mean not from your arm chair Of your home....?
Very tough fight for McCloskey but if he drags it into the latter rounds i can see maybe a stoppage for McCloskey.

 

I think you're seriously underestimating Dudey.

Barrera was FAR from world class by the time he fought Khan....Malignaggi was never super and was slower and a bit faded by the time he fought Khan...Maidana isn't very technically skilled, and still very nearly won the fight...had Khan stuck to the gameplan (and had the skills to do so effectively) that fight should (technically) have been the complete shutout most of Khans fans were predicting....in reality boxing isn't as simple as that.


In my opinion, McCloskey couldve beaten anyone on Khans resume, including all of those.

The 10th round shows how ego driven Khan can still be, ignoring probably the best trainer in the worlds, game plan nearly cost him his belt...Khan is a much improved boxer, but hes still very hittable....you can commend him on his improved durability...if I choose, I'll point out that if the gameplan had been stuck to, his jaw should never have been so hittable!

I’m not underestimating Dudey. I think he’s a very skilled fighter, and he has all the ability to cause an upset. I mean, with Khan’s chin and underdeveloped defence, most people have a good chance against him – even Euro-level fighters like Dudey.

We don’t know too much about the Barrera that fought Khan, because the fight didn’t last long enough to allow us to accurately gauge anything. But what we do know, though, is that it was only 2 fights prior to that when he was hanging with Pacquiao in a 12 round fight, and that when he came to fight a 135 Khan who was only 2 rounds on from his brutal career-destroying loss, many people were split down the middle on who would win.

As for Paulie, he doesn’t need to have super power to prove he’s good. Fighting and beating proven world-class fighters like N’dou and Diaz, and hanging with the monstrous Miguel Cotto at 140, is enough to suggest he’s more proven than McCloskey. And he wasn’t that faded when he fought Khan. He was rejuvenated under a new trainer and was coming off 2 great performances over Diaz.

And Maidana, as I said, is a monster of a fighter. Many consider him to be in the top 3 of the 140 pounders. Most of Khan’s fans weren’t predicting this shut-out. Some of us thought he was gonna lose, most of us thought he’d win in a tough fight, and only the ill-informed fans thought he was gonna breeze it. The fight was always going to be as close as it was because:

• Maidana's style is the worst possible style for Khan.
• Maidana has pure one-punch KO power.
• Not only is Khan's chin weak, but his defence is too. There was no chance in hell that Khan would go the full 12 rounds without taking a shot. Even Roach said this before the fight - he was expecting Khan to take some shots. So when Khan's chin eventually get in the way of Maidana's bombs, what on earth did we expect was gonna happen? Was he seriously going to shrug it off and continue out-boxing him without any adverse effects? Of course not! He was gonna go on the back foot, he was gonna tire, he was gonna be broken down, he was gonna be open up to more shots, etc. He didn't choose to ignore Freddie's gameplan. He just couldn't keep it up 100% because he was in the fight of his life.

 

Jesus, how old is McCloskey? 31, 32 and this is his first World title fight. If he was a genuine world class talent he should have made waves on the world stage long before now. And please don't spout that garbage about coming up the right way. As for beating any of the opponents on Khan's resume, well we can only speculate can't we. Of course anybody can look like a Floyd Mayweather or a Roy Jones beating up a Gerry 'the taxi-driver' from Donegal...

 

He only turned pro when he was 25. Getting to the level he's at now in 20 or so fights, is normal. It's no different to what Khan was at that stage.

 

McCloskey definitely has a chance, but this will be a fight at least a couple of levels above anything he will have experienced to date. Can he make the adjustments to compete on this stage? Just seems Khan is being rated on a similar level to McCloskey's opposition to date.....

 

I agree. We know McCloskey is talented and skilled for the level he is, but to say he'll immediately make that jump up to world class and definitely beat the number two guy of the division.....is abit too hopeful.

 

Dead right, which is why he was outrageously stopped on an illegal technicality, CHEATED BY THE GANGSTERS THAT RUN THIS VILE, BYZANTINE CROOKED SPORT.

 

Yeah this game would be boring if we allways backed the favroutes all the time, believe me McCloskeys got something about him, you should judge him after the fight win or lose, i would of rather Paul had a couple more fights before this one but hey he needs to take his chance and i hope the paddy does. You never know he might have a few more fans after this fight.

 

Like what i seen on ringside. He's really doing all the right things in camp.

I always wondered if he has a strength and conditioning coach. Articulate guy as well.

Actually really looking forward to this fight. Intrigued by the styles and McCloskey's angles for his punches. Think this will be a tougher test then when Khan met Paulie. Still expect a Khan win but a interesting battle.

'm impressed by the arguements and reason debate I'm reading, especially considering it's England v Ireland. I think Khan is the obvious favourite and would put it somewhere aroung 75/25. Khan is much improved in the last few years and also think the Maidiana fight will only have brought him on, he was taken into deep water and came out a man.

I also believe John Breen when he said Warren didn't want McCloskey for Khan a few years back believing McCloskey would take him but alot has changed.

Khan has much going on outside the ring that are unhelful to him and could be his downfall to fulfilling his potential but one would still have to favour him here. That said McCloskey knows his trade and haw difficult it is to get a title shot and that this needs to be his time. Expect a live fight.
