The left hook of Cooney meets the blazing hands of Patterson.

I would put my money on Patterson.

Hight risk perhaps, but I am going with the more reliable performer.

honestly, i would put a LOT of money of patterson. with the same speed and mobility than spinks used, i see patterson tearing him up

cooney took 4 hours to set up that hook. he wouldn't find patterson waiting

Patterson too small and fights out of crouch which is perfect to be hit by Cooney's left hook.

(Razor Ruddick's smash would blow out Patterson too.)

Cooney in 1 or 2 rounds by TKO.

    Cooney KO's him.

Although I'm not very confident in saying this.

I think Patterson KO's the Cooney who fought Mike Spinks & Old Foreman, but the Prime Cooney who gave Holmes a tough time would be more dangerous & i'd favour Floyd by a smaller margin there.

I'm trying to figure out if Floyd could even hit Gerry once.

Lets not forget though, both Eddie Davis and Johnny Davis (Light Heavyweights)
knocked out 'Gentleman Gerry'. (In the amateurs).

Gerry had no chin..especially after late-night partying out on Long Island.

You mean because Gerry was so damn slick and fast on the defense and Patterson was so slow and immobile? Gerry "Greased Lightning" Cooney would be untouchable and knockout glass-jawed fraud Patterson before a single punch could land on him. Patterson could never defeat a puncher, besides Ingo twice and Moore once, etc.

Cooney was just a gangly teenaged lightheavyweight when he lost to the Davis Bros. Don't forget that these were amateur fights too.

Patterson was a vastly better fighter than Cooney. Much better athlete, better moves, more talent, etc. However, I would have to pick Cooney to knock Patterson out. My reasoning is that the 6'0", 185 lbs. Patterson would have been too small to tangle with the 6'7", 225 lbs. powerpunching Cooney. Cooney by kayo within three rounds.

If by some chance the fight goes more than five rounds, then I pick Patterson to kayo Cooney. But I doubt that Patterson could have avoided Cooney's left hook long enough to survive four rounds.

Cooney is not that great a fighter, but his left hook is just too powerful. He would be able to almost down Patterson and get a 3rd or 4th round knockout.

i don't know, i'm just not seeing it. others are calling for a cooney win as well but i was never terribly impressed with him : not pre-prime, prime or post prime.

the best cooney still had **** movement, a slow ass hook, only jabbed effectively in one fight (the loss to holmes) and shook up way too easily

yes, his hook was strong and floyd's chin wasn't the best. but we've seen patterson go to the trenches and comes up the winner against much better competition than cooney did.

based on styles, the almost obscene handspeed difference makes it a floyd win imo

I'm sure Butterbean would expose Patterson's chin too.

Cooney is so underrated im pretty confident a prime Cooney goes thru Patterson within 4 rounds.... One poster compared this to spinks but Cooney was past it and also,Spinks style was so much different and he had that herky jerky awkward style and also about 3 inches and 25lbs heavier (Spinks at heavy). Pattersons style would play into Cooneys too much of a size difference here, i wouldnt be suprised if Cooney finished him within 1 or 2 rounds.... Honestly i cant think of 2 many hws that hit harder than Cooney.
